I was once able to buy just the top oven part of a convection oven for roasting.  Anyone know where to get one.  I've checked ebay.

Do you mean the heating element? If so, Repair Clinic has a multitude of parts. I've ordered a variety of parts for them to fix a washing machine and dryer before.

I still prefer a 1440 or 1470watt GG top, more power and better built. In the past I've contacted an ebay seller to significantly lower the shipping cost by just having the top shipped and letting them keep the large heavy glass bowl.

I understand the GGs are well built, I have two of them. They are really hard to come by any more, I have had to pay a premium for them, mine are the 1500 watt units. I payed $35.00 for one and $40.00 used. sense they don't make them anymore, I have racked up some spare parts to repair what I got. I use the 1250 watt units all the time, they roast just fine, infact I can get just as good results. The newer turbo ovens that are out are deceptive they combine fan and heating elements for total wattage, inadequate for roasting coffee, maybe do fine with a half pound load JMO.

I've had a Betty crocker top for at least 7-8 years. I put at least 200 roasts through it, and hadn't used it in 2 years, as I Behmor roast. While repairing my after-burner, I dug it out, and it worked exactly as it had previously. I can easily get 14oz to 1st crack in 7-8 minutes if I chose too...which I don't.
It may be as rare as the GG, but I love mine. For all those that roast CO/popper stirrer (I use a modified Salton UFO bottom) don't forget the 5" cake "spring form" as a heat buffer between the popper bottom and CO.
