Hey all you HGers...

Saw this on eBay and couldn't resist sharing...nope, not my auction! ;)

I have a vision of some very creative HGer mounting this to something and then placing a bowl underneath and shaking or stirring.  I dunno...

The reserve is at least $30, but who knows from there.

Anyway, looked cool because of the adjustable wattage...you could really customize the roast with 3 heat settings and a fan only setting.

Well, shoot.  Looks like I linked the old auction...no wonder no one replied to this thread.

Here is the current auction:

Better hurry though...only 8 hours remaining from this post.

No insult intended, few of us respond to auction posts.

That's a bummer...I love to find cool/unusual/bizarre/weird auctions and talk about them.

Oh well.

Posting live auctions is considered bad form by many.  If someone had already known about that auction & planned on bidding, they would not appreciate all the extra publicity (translate: possible competition) which results when it is posted to the message boards.

There are a couple of other reasons it's considered bad form, which are mentioned in at least one other thread around here.

Another reason Adam is that if it's a misidentified/worded item, coffee grinder, espresso machine, etc., it could go for an excellent price because no one or few people know about it. By posting the link here or on alt.coffee, your chances of getting a good deal (or anyone here or over on alt) are about zip as potentially hundreds/thousands of people now know & the crazy unrealistic bidding wars start... {:-/

P.S. This was posted before I saw Susie's (RoxieL's) post.

Well, I figured it was better for a CGer to bid and have a chance, then let it be won by someone who needs a new shrinkwrapper.  I was actually trying more to get a discussion going about using that type of a heat source.

I have been posting on internet chat rooms and message boards for 10 years now (including running my own for almost 2 years) and haven't run into this unwritten rule before.

Sorry to have broken the local ettiquette rules.

No more auction posts from me...my bad.

Hey Adam, don't feel too bad - in the past, several have fallen for this unwritten rule. Unfortunately there is nothing in the FAQ about it but it is generally acceptable to post humerous or expired auctions.

Cheers

Ian
