I wasn't sure where to post this, so I'm posting it here. I contacted cappojim on ebay about his swiss gold press pots. I inquired if he had any defective units that he can sell the filter out of. He does. I told him several people on coffeegeek may be interested in this information so he gave me permission to post this info on this forum. So here is a cut & paste for all those interested in finding a swissgold press pot filter. I hope some of you find it helpful. The shipping to Chicago was $3 and some change for just the filter and $5 and some change for the pot included. S&H will vary according to your location.
****** Below is information I've collected from emails that I have sent out to others who have asked the same question. (If you want to buy a discounted presspot and have me only send the filter, I can do that too; price would be the same.)(Also, because the pot has the defect, I will not sell it on eBay; I only sell "perfect" items on eBay.)
I'm selling irregular presspot for people who want to savage the Swissgold filter out of them or don't mind the small visual defect. Irregular means: the presspots have some small pressure marks and over glue marks on the gold foils of the press pot design frames. The marks in no way take away from the function of the presspot. I will sell the irregular chrome designs for $11.00, and gold designs for $13.00. The filters themselves are one piece with a curled spring design along the circumference that adjust slightly to create a snug fit. The chrome design press has a silver color steel finish filter disc, and the gold design press has a gold color steel filter disc. Both filters have diameters of 3 5/8" and both function identically. The filters are in perfect condition and are genuine SwissGold's coming from the retired distributor "Great Products" in North Carolina. SwissGold has since changed distributors. If you wish to see what they look like, go to my eBay Store "Cappojim's Coffee" under the sub-title "Swissgold coffee items." I also have the Aztec design shown at my website Cappojim.com. I'm selling on eBay a "perfect" version of the presses in question. Take a look in my eBay store and see what you think. If you wish to purchase any of the irregulars, email me back what you want from the list below. I accept credit cards through Paypal, or Money Orders.
This is a list of what I have as far as the irregulars: Chrome Skyline, 6 Cup - 2 units Chrome Skyline, 3 Cup - 9 units Chrome Cows, 3 Cup - 2 units Gold Cows, 3 Cup - 2 units Gold Aztec, 3 Cup - 5 units

Thanks for the tip. I have been trying to find a source for these filters for about a year. The only place I could find was SweetMarias.com, but they stopped stocking them almost a year ago.
I use an old (8+ years of daily use) cheapo Braun "burr" grinder at work for my press coffee and it makes a terribly inconsistent grind. When I use it at the course setting, I still get a lot of powder. When I use the OEM Bodum press filter, I have to avoid drinking the last 1 to 2 oz of coffee unless I want to chew it. At home I have a Mazzer, so the chewy coffee is not an issue.
After I saw this post, I contacted Cappojim and ordered two "imperfect" 6 cup presses. They arrived today and I just finished my first cup using the Swissgold filter. I am impressed. There is probably only a small mouthful of sludgy coffee that I had to leave in the cup. I would estimate that it is at least half of what I used to see with the OEM filter.
Cappojim was great to deal with - he shipped within hours of receiving PayPal payment, and he even thre in a sample of his own roasted coffee. I would highly recommend FP users try out this new filter.

cappojim is a nice guy. I bought my manual pour-over coffee maker from him. Shipped fast and double boxed. Highly recommend him. Looks like I'll be picking up one of these as well. Thanks cexshun.

Glad you guys found it usefull. When I received mine, I was expecting some tacky press pot design. However, the chrome skyline is a beautiful pot. If I didn't require a 32oz pot (his 6 cups are 28oz), my entire Bodom pot whould be in the cupboard. Just a note to some people. The filter and lid did not fit my 32oz pot correctly. I had to remove the filters and swap them due to the cone shape of the swissgold lid. It was preventing the filter from pressing down far enough. After the swap, it looks like the filter has an extra inch vs the Bodom, which is no big deal as long as it's not to short.

I also was pleasantly surprised by the appearance of the SwissGold press. I also received the NY skyline model and it actually looks very nice. I am in the same boat as cexshun though - I need my 32 oz bodum in case I am making coffee for 3 people, so I swapped the filters. If not for my need for the additional volume, I would have been happy to keep the SwissGold press and sell the bodum. After I swapped the filters so that my Bodum now has the SG filter, I unloaded the SG pot with OEM Bodum filter iontop a coworker who will no doubt be less anal retentive than I am about sludgy coffee.

Thanks for the timely info. I thought I'd check out his ebay site and noticed that he carries a new bodum made of polycarbonate. This being the day after TSA unpacked my press from its bubble-wrap/padded bag and just threw it back in my suitcase (providing me with a suitcase full of glass shards). The new Bodum along with a swissgold from an irregular is just what I need for travel.
