I'm a little confused on how you can have the Maestro Plus rated so much higher than the Maestro.  As far as I understand, these two machines have the exact same burr set.  So why would you have the M+ rated as 'good' for, say vacuum, and the Maestro rated as 'poor'?  I don't think a couple extra clicks in the proper grind range would warrant such a drastic difference.

The Solis Maestro has 17 steps of adjustment and the Solis Maestro Plus has 40.  So there is a big difference in that regard.

If you look carefully, I did not rate the Solis Maestro 'poor' for anything.  Perhaps you were looking at the Solis Maestro Classic, which appears to be a Costco-popular Solis product, of which I am still unsure of the exact details.  Although is appears to have the same burr set as other Solis products, other details and quality are murky at best.

I have been soliciting input on this chart for months here at CG, with very little response - so in some cases I had to guess and put something in there - and that is what happened with the Solis Maestro Classic.

Now that you have opened it up - give me your opinion on the Solis Maestro or Solis Maestro Classic (assuming you own or have owned one), and help me fill in all the boxes across accurately.

Thanks

Chris

Lawrence,

I noticed you rated the drip only good.  Any insight on this?

Thanks

In retrospect, I probably rated the taste/quality of the coffee based on my personal preferences rather than the quality of the grind. My favorite at-home coffee is from the Krups Moka Brew. Even though my KitchenAid Classic makes very good drip coffee, it's just not as good as the KMB.

I think the overall quality of coffee ground by my Capresso Infinity is excellent. It creates very little static and produces a very consistent grind at all the settings I've used.

And Lawrence, I'd be interested to know what setting you use on the Infinity for drip and for the vacuum pot.  Right now, I use the fine setting all the way on the right (7 clicks from the left) for drip, and the left most fine setting (4 clicks from the left) for vacuum.

Wow. That seems pretty fine for vacuum. What's your pull-down time?

With 1 being the finest setting, here's what I use.

Drip - 11
KMB half pot - 7
KMB full pot - 11
Espresso - 8 (go figure - it just works best)
vacuum - 12 or 13 (can't remember - pull-down ~ 40 seconds)
stove top moka - 7
French press - still dialing (13, I think)

“And what flavor would you like in your coffee, sir?”

The last 'fine' setting before the 'extra fine' settings works pretty well for me for a vacuum pot.  I've never had a stalled pot and the pull down time after taking it off the stove is probably approx 30 seconds.  I'm trying to get as much flavor as possible. I've had some light roast coffee that came out very bland in the Bodum Santos.  I've since started grinding finer and added more coffee, and so far, I think I'm on the right track.

It's really amazing how you can get a totally different flavor from the same beans when you use drip versus vacuum pot.  When using one or the other, you have to start from scratch with amount of coffee, grind, time up north, etc.

Are you saying there are 3 versions of the Maestro: Maestro+, Maestro, and Classic?  I bought a refurbished unit from Aabree about a year ago, so i'll assume it's the regular Maestro.  I use it with my Krups Moka brew and would give it an excellent mark. Now I haven't ever owned a nicer grinder so maybe i'm missing something, but it's only drip coffee.  I really cant see grind quality making too much of a difference.  Oh yeah, my first vacuum pot is on order, so i'll let you know after a month or two of playing :).

Yes, just as the chart indicates - there are 3 models.

Sumo computers...How many different steps does the Nemox Lux have?  Enough for espresso?  The reason I ask is because Innovas aren't available in the US as of now.  Finding one is REALLY hard!!  Thanks!!
