I've been using my Yama pot for almost a month now....All of a sudden the water is going North befor the water boils. and ruins the whole pot of coffee. What can I do?
Below is how I prepare a pot(and has worked fine):
-Grind coffee on a medium/fine setting -Place ground coffee in top of syphon -Preheat water in kettle -Pour preheated water in pot -Place syphon on top of pot and twist to seal
Water use to come to a boil quickly and shoot North, I would let brew 35 seconds and remove from heat.
Now water just comes up north, not all at once just a slow pace and just steeps the coffee...DOES NOT BOIL and shoot north like it used to.
What am I doing wrong all of a sudden. My method worked fine for almost a month.
I clean the filter after every use by soaking in dish soap and hot water and clean throughly. I clean the pot throughly after each use...Im stumped

I would suspect an air leak.
Try wetting the area around the sealing surfaces between the upper and lower. Then watch for small bubbles as the water heats and rises. If you see bubbles you will know where the leak is.
I should also mention, sometimes having water there actually seals the leak and you won't see any bubbles.
I don't have the Yuma, but this method works on other pots so it should for you.

Ok so I'm crazy I guess....
I spoke to coffeebean corral was directed to call Baratza. I call Barartza and was advised this is what the pot is sposed to do......As the water heats it will SLOWLY rise to the top. Furthermore was advised that they do not use vacuum pots there and import these as a favor for coffeebean corral and sweet marias...
Strange as the last 2 vacuum systems I used heated the water to a boil and the water shot north not all 5 cups at once but only took a matter of seconds for the water to go to the top.
Were as now on this pot the water takes almost 5 minutes to get most of the water to the top and never does come completly come to a boil, and further more doesnt come back south....

It sounds to me like you need a new rubber gasket. If you bought it recently from Coffeebean Corral, it seems they should either replace the whole pot or at the very least the gasket. Why YOU should have to deal with the importer is a mystery to me! Paul

Where is your air leak?
At the inner part of the rubber next to the upper glass or around the outside of the rubber next to the lower?
If it is at the part next to the upper you can try removing the gasket from the upper and clean the sealing area, dry, and apply a very small amount of high temp clear silicone sealant ( the kind that sets up in a few hours) around the sealing area on the glass. Slide up the gasket. A very small amount of sealant is all you need. Use your finger to smear it on, just enough to barely cover the glass. You can still remove the gasket later with a good twist and the silicone will rub off of the glass. Did I say to use a very small amount? I only do this as a last resort.
If the leak is between the gasket and the bottom piece, use water as a lubricant to allow you to push the upper further into the bottom.
On some of my old vac pots I let it get hot, but just before the water is about to go north, them remove the pot from the burner and give it one more good push down making sure it is in tight and level. Then back on the stove it goes. By letting it get hot some the rubber gasket softens up some and makes a better seal. You could also just run some hot water over the gasket before you place it in the bottom.
If your Yuma has sealing problems after one month of use something is wrong. The rubber gasket shouldn't be hard already. I am using a Silex from the 30's almost every day without seal problems.
Is the gasket hard?
Or it could be you just need to push the upper down into to bottom a little harder.
Actually you don't want the water to boil before it goes north. The water would be too hot to produce good tasting coffee. Mine never boils until all of the water that can go north makes the trip, (usually in about a min - min and a half) then I turn down the burner and allow it to lightly boil in the bottom for a minute or two. This slow boil agitates the brew in the upper. I then turn off the burner and place the pot on the counter and it goes south in about a minute with plenty of vacuum left to suck air into the bottom after it runs out of coffee.

Thanks all so far for the help.
I expeirmented a bit tonight, appears to work fine if I A) Do NOT preheat the water and B)Press the top on with much force after wetting
I guess this is the method I will use for now seeing as it works. Just sucks because my electric stove takes almost thirty minutes for this thing to heat high enough on Medium to go north. Ive seen others say they preheat there water befor putting in there yama. Suggestions?
