Yes,I know they are discontinued. Anyway,I idiotically broke my carafe. Although I have a spare MKB,I ordered a a new carafe from Krups' retail outlet,Smartermall. The new carafe arrived promptly, but with a warning that I thought I should pass on. My model is about 2 years old. I was strongly warned (sounded very serious),not to use the old lid and filter basket with the new carafe. As you may suspect,I was forced to order not just the glass carafe, but the top assembly as well (try $53 shipped).
The warning,as I said, was not to use the old top assembly with the new carafe. In fact,it almost demanded that the old top be discarded (no reason given, suggesting a safety problem)
I see only a few differences between the old and new tops. The new top sits a good deal flatter (about 50%) on the rubber gasket. The holes in the filter basket seem a bit larger. The carafe seems the same. Please don't ask for a photo--I don't own a digital camera.
I see no difference in performance--the brew is as good as ever.
I am simply offering this warning to anyone who might own an older MKB,breaks a carafe, buys a new one,and tends not to read enclosures.
                                                  Regards to all,
                                                       Barry

Are you going to try the old assembly? I realize that there really is no reason for you to do so, because you already have the new one, but...

No,Ron,I'm not going to try it. The warning may be nonsense, but why take a chance? I swiped the gasket and chucked the old one.
