Alan I still find it hard to beleive that your products cannot be marketed better - clubs like Costco or Sams and BJ carry many unique products. Just my 2c.

I tend to agree with "stinkyjones" on this issue.  As a relative newcomer to these forums, I wanted to be careful about my posts during the probationary period so as to not "break" the rules.  I have had several positive experiences with vendors and products that I would have liked to tell about, but was worried they might have been viewed as promotions or endorsements.

You're kidding, right? If we can't speak positively about products and services here then what is this forum for?

I appreciate the fact that Mr. Adler is a member of these forums and feel that he contributes greatly to them, but my initial impression was that a product was being promoted during these early posts.

He gave technical input about the product that HE invented, markets, and sells. Not until the question of where to buy one came up did he make reference to finding a retailer. Are you honestly suggesting that he came here merely to promote the Aeropress? Read his contributions to this thread again if you do...

I can't believe people feel this way. The guy is trying to help people get the most out of his product and he is being chastised for it? I swear, all internet forums are becoming the same...

Could not agree more with  the previous post - how I wish we would have the inventors or senior tech people of the other products disscussed in this forum answering our questions.

Kowabunga!  The words are flying off the keyboard.  Duck, while you still have a chance.

I respectfully suggest that we all return to discussing coffee, rather than the rules of the forum.  After all, it is coffee that brought us together in the first place.

And out of respect for all who want to keep it non-commercial, I'll keep my posts technical.

Sincerely yours,

Alan

Alan,

I appreciate your good humor about this and I meant no ill will.  As I said, your contributions to these forums are very appreciated and I wish more people in your unique position ( inventor ) could be as accessible when we have questions about a product.

Ok, Alan, it's Mocha time.

I just got my aeropress and ran it through a couple of pressings.  So far I'm impressed.  Very simple, and easy cleanup however there are quite a few variables that I'm sure will effect the quality of my drink so I have a few questions.

1) Previously you suggested for espresso shots to use 185F water and 2 scoops of finely ground coffee.  My question is, was that amount for a double shot?   and what was the quantity of water you were using?  and how long did you let the water sit with the grinds before pressing?

I'm used to the white mochas from *bucks if that gives you any indication of the flavor I'm going for.  (The espresso beans I'm using are from there as well)  Yes I know, that plenty of other coffee places taste better than them, but I'm starting small....baby steps :)  so that leads me to my next question:

2) What "settings" would you suggest to emulate a *bucks double shot.

The only espresso machine I've ever used was a cheap steam toy (kept it for 2 days), so I'm by no means an expert, I just know whether or not I like my finished drink.

Any advice appreciated.

Hey,
I'm not a moderator; I just wanted to give my two cents.  This is a new product that we really don't know much about.  The rules might dictate that all of these posts should be send directly to Alan to avoid commericial posting, but I think that would be a waste of resources.  I sent an email to Alan thanking him for posting and I just wanted to make a public post as well.  IMO, it would be totally different if Alan started the post.

Thanks,

Thanks Alan,  I think stinky has a point, but I appreciate the technical info you have..

Back to coffee:  We're holding a home roaster meeting this Saturday at which Andy at Barefoot hosts.  Barefoot is  in Santa Clara on Lawerence and Steven's Creek..  You should join us.  It's fun, and I'd love to see you demo the Aeropress.

Hello,

First, I'd like to respond to Christopher.   I see your point, and will respond to any personal emails I receive.  But the open forum has it's good points too.  It permits others to provide answers and it allows others to read the answers, be they from me or anyone else.   I find it useful to read another person's question and the answer.  Even if the question hadn't ocurred to me, I learn from it.

On to nicepants who wants a double mocha.

I've never made a mocha, but two scoops of coffee would correspond to a double anything.   Double espresso, double latte, double mocha, etc.   I'd fill the water the number "2" on the side.   But you could also try less water if you want a more concentrated espresso and thus less dilution of the milk.

Kenneth Davids wrote in his book Espresso, "Next to the cappuccino, the caffe mocha is probably the most abused drink in the traditional espresso cuisine".   He continues to explain that many cafes have "turned it into a sort of hot milkshake".  Of course, a lot of us like milkshakes.  At any rate, Ken knows his stuff and I heartily recommend his books.

His mocha recipe is two ounces of espresso, two ounces of strong unsweetened hot chocolate, and eight ounces of milk.  He also says to mix the espresso and chocolate together before adding the milk.

Thank you Rawman.  I'll contact Barefoot and try to make it on Saturday.

Sincerely,

Alan

I couldn't agree more with the posts in support of Alan.  Honestly folks, this is simply a case of an awesome product inventor coming to support his product.  How many times have you seen this done on the coffeegeek forums?  In my time here I haven't see it ever and I think its great.

Another question for Alan if I may.

When you use four scoops of coffee in the Aeropress how much water does this correspond to?  Also, how much water do you use to dilute this to make average coffee.  The reason I'm asking is I'm searchin for a way to easily make coffee im my dorm room at college.  Honestly twenty ounces it a little much for me.  I'm really looking for a way to make about 10 ounces and I'm wondering if thats easily possible.  Thanks in advance for the info.
