Drip: Capresso Coffeeteam Plus
Posted Sun Jan 11, 2004, 9:39pm Subject: Re: Which one should I get?
Hi There,
I have had a Capresso CoffeetTEAM Plus for 3 years now and I have loved it! But...it died a few days ago. Very sad day for me and now I am in a panic on whether to send it off and try to get it fixed or just buy a new coffee maker. I noticed the technivorm you are interested in. I liked the convenience of the Capresso because it grinded my beans exactly to the amount of water I put in and then dumped the grinded beans into the copper filter. It really spoiled me, but...I want something better if it is out there!
My questions is this...does anone have a recommendation for a coffee machine that does similar to what my Capresso did?

The Holy Grail of coffee machines is not yet on the market. The closest is the Capresso. Here are the requirements I look for in a machine:
Comes with a burr grinder, which imparts less heat than a blade grinder. The Capresso has this.
Comes with a thermal carafe, which protects the temperature and therefore the flavor. The Capresso lacks this feature. Without a thermal carafe you are better off chewing on whole beans then gragling with toilet water.
Programmable, including time to grind/brew, amount to brew, and strength of coffee. Capresso can do all except control the strength of coffee. (It delivers a weak brew.)
Brew cycle for a complete pot should be between 4 and 6 minutes for optimal flavor. Capresso comes close. Mine takes 8 minutes--not bad.
Brew temp between 195 and 210 degrees, Capresso is close.
Holding temp between 155 and 175 degrees. Capresso coffee flavor is severely degraded after 10 to 15 minutes.
Comes with water filtration system, Capresso does.
Has large filter basket so grounds can move around and not become packed-down. Capresso does ok.
Easy to clean. Capresso is good here, mainly because the grinding and brewing are separated.
