Subject: Where to buy Technivorm? Or what else?

I was set to pull the trigger on a TV KB-741 from Sweet Maria's, they had them couple of weeks ago for 182.50, now 225.00. I know the dollar is down, but....  I saw the thermal version other places for 199.00, but I was a little concerned about a metallic taste. Has anyone seen a better price? I would consider a Bunn, but I'm away for  few days a week, and the water evaporates out of them because they keep the water hot, and you never know how much to add. Is there a 200 degree alternative?

I was going to suggest Roastmasters.com.  (I discovered that sight from the where to by link on the KBT-741 review page from this site).  I purchased a KBT-741 (CD version) earlier this week for $199.95.  It looks like they just raised the price $40 to $239.95 and they are currently out of stock though.  Plus I don't see the non-themal versions available on their site.  Looks like I got lucky.  Personally, I wasn't concerned about the metallic taste since I drink out of a metallic cup anyway.  Good luck.

I can at least speak to your concern about metallic taste:  don't worry, no metallic taste.

I've been using a TV with a thermal carafe for a while now.  I haven't detected the slightest hint of a metallic taste.

Thanks for the responses.
nelamvr6, have you had any problems pouring from the thermal carraf? Or was that an old problem?

Atgcruat, thanks for the link, nice site, but I'm not after the CD, I hate to sound picky, but if I'm going to spend 200 on a coffee pot, I want what I want.

Maybe I'll rethink the thermal model, that's the one I originaly wanted. Then I read about problems pouring, the taste, cleaning, etc.

I don't really have a problem, it pours OK.

I was looking for a replacement because I remembered that I have had carafes that have poured a bit smoother.

But remember, I have the 8 cup model.  If you get the 10 cup model there are Nissan carafes that you can more or less use as direct replacements.

As it is I am more than happy with my TV, the coffee is the best (by far!) that I've ever made!

Just ordered the KB741(non-thermal) from Whole Latte Love today. I was a little surprised by the price jump as well. The KB741 was 224.95 with free shipping and no tax. I tried to use a coupon code that I found online, but it had expired. The person I dealt with on the phone gave me another code to use that brought the price down to $213. When the guy went to check on inventory, he stated they were out, but he was able to have one shipped from their warehouse. I have already received an email with a UPS tracking number. Not bad! The 'vorm is the coffee maker I have wanted for several years. I've been getting by with a Presto Scandinavian for a few years, but it started going on the fritz over the last couple of weeks. It has an intermittent problem turning on. I'm hoping the Technivorm is a substantially longer term investment.

Boyd's is the U.S. Importer for Technivorm.  You might want to give them a try.

Thanks again for the responses. I ordered the thermal from PT's coffee. 212.00 plus 9.00 shipping. Have they changed the carraf? Looks like the 10 cup has the same pour lip as the 8 cup? The one I'll be getting does not have the lip, but I'll learn to live with it.

With 10 million coffee pots out there, you would think there would be more choices, I mean, how hard can it be to build one right? Keeping in mind that we can put a man on the moon and all.

Well, what I thought was an initially positive experience with Whole Latte Love has turned into a negative one. Yes, I received a tracking number as stated, but it turned out to be for the free coffee that was included with my purchase of the 'vorm. After receiving the Lavazza coffee, I noticed that the "best if used by date" was January 2007. The person I intitially placed my phone order with assured me that I would receive a tracking number for the coffee maker this past Monday, and that I would receive the coffee maker a couple of days later. As of today, I have no tracking number and no coffee maker. Repeated emails to WLL go unanswered. I reached them by phone and received no information. I have never dealt with WLL before, and after this experience, probably never will again. Anyone know if anybody from WLL ever participates in discussions on this board?
