Talking about the BCG; the only burr mill grinder BUNN has ever produced for the home market.
It came in white or black, was rather expensive and for some time now, it appears to have been discontinued by BUNN and is as a result very difficult to come across.
Does anyone know why? My guess is that they had a hard time selling them at such exorbitant price or perhaps they've got some new technology coming. Has anyone ever used it?
Grinder talk isn't cheap around here so give me your thoughts.
I purchased one of these Bunn grinders on ebay because I was curious about it. The unit uses a flat metal burrset attached to an auguer-type plastic screw designed to help feed beans into the burrs. It's a nifty concept but poorly executed, definately not worth the money new.
The body is plastic and the two halves are joined together with screws and then a BIG sticky label is applied to the front across the two pieces. The result of that aspect of the design is a NOISY grinder that is extremely difficult to disassemble. But that's not even the main reason I didn't like the grinder!
There is very limited grind adjustability by design and a very small motor...but the worst part is the design of the cutting burrs! The burrs have a fan-like pattern of scalloped recessed areas in the grind path where bean fragments get caught and bashed rather than being ground bu the cutting edges. The result is a very poor grind consitency, to me it seemed worse than a whirlyblade (but I haven't used a whirlyblade in years so that may be unfair).
I paid $40 for mine including shipping and AFAIC that was a waste of time and money. I didn't even try to make coffee with it.

I have one for sale... used once. $70. I found it was noisy but did a decent job of grinding beans instead of chopping them. The reason I can't use it is that it has a rather narrow opening to remove one burr for cleaning (you must use an allen wrench to remove it), and my hand is just too big to fit. Original package, price includes shipping to lower 48.

I use one for my Bunn pour over coffee maker has done a good job so far for drip! Paid $150.00 for it a year ago that is the going price of them they also carry a 3year warranty and they are Loud to use and sound like its in agony grinding the beans from the gear drive of the motor.
I have heard that the motor gives up the ghost on this machine so ill use it till it dose and then get it repaired. No one in the coffee maker business has a better warranty than Bunn and great customer service on there products..........
