Hello....Im from Argentina.....sorry but my english is not very good.
I have a grinder....it is similar to a fan... has a cross-shaped blades (can not find the words to describe it wel) also have a espresso machine with a pressurized porta filter.(called "thermocreamer"). always buy pre-ground coffee (that is not good but it's easier to get)
there are things that do not understand............
when I make coffee with the pressurized porta filter...the coffee form crema in the top of the cup. when I make coffee without the pressurized porta filter and grind very fine and tamp very strong...the coffee does NOT produce crema.
sorry if my answer is already in previous topics....but I find difficult to read much English language!

A pressurized portafilter is really a valve that restricts the water flow to creates pressure in the filter basket. Without the pressurized portafilter, the coffee itself must restrict the water and create the pressure.
The type of grinder you have (a blade grinder) doesn't produce consistent sized grounds. Some will be big, some will be very small. The big grounds, even when tamped very hard, will allow a path for the water to flow. This will not allow pressure to build up.
If you want a better answer, you may want to read / post in the espresso section ( "Questions and Answers" ).

You're looking for a Burr Grinder... I think most people have conical burr grinders (Breville translation to spanish is "Molino de abrojos cónico"). You're probably looking at $80 (for a Capresso infinity) to $300 (for a Rancilio Rocky).
I have a Capresso Infinity, probably the cheapest yet still acceptable grinder. Experts will tell you that given a $500 budget to make espresso, they'd spend $300 on a grinder, then buy a good tamper, and whatever is left on the machine.
I'm by no means an expert, so take this as second hand expert advice :)

shit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I went to a warehouse of coffee and orders that I would grind fresh coffee(and fine for espresso machine) immediately went to my house to be tested.............
and........NO CREMAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!! (without the pressurized portafilter)
the fresh coffee with the pressurized portafilter makes a lot more cream than with the old pre-ground coffee.(and the flavor is much, much better)
