I know. I know. I shouldn't mess with my broken in Moka pot. I was curious and wanted to know if the Moka pot was any good for brewing tea. I had some Jacksons Earl Grey tea leaves and gave it a shot.

I put about 1.5 tea spoons of tea in the funnel, so it was not nearly its full capacity (it's a 6 cup Moka pot).

So far so good. I am no expert in tea (nor in coffee), but the tea I got from the Moka it's pretty good, not watery, not strong, just right for my taste.

I wonder if this will affect noticeably my next coffee brew in the pot. I hope not, since coffee is always strong from the Moka.

Has anyone tried this before?

Question:  Did it affect the taste of your tea?  A little tea taste (especially earl grey) with coffee I can see no issue with, but a little coffee taste with earl grey ... I don't know about that!

I didn't notice any coffee flavor in the tea, even though the inside of my pot is coated with a thin layer of coffee. Maybe I am so used to the coffee flavor that it went totally unnoticeable for me.

Today I brew preground Illy in the Moka pot and although I got a pleasant tea aroma in the coffee while it was being brewed, the flavor was so subtle that I couldn't detect it while drinking it. And I'm baffled by it. Aroma should be more noticeable when it comes from one's own palate to the nose.

I made yerba mate in my moka express once and it actually turned out pretty good. It wasn't bitter and the yerba leaves didn't end up in the chamber. I only filled the funnel half way.
