Hello Everyone,
I have a bodum coffee press that I use to make coffee, but the filter has been getting creased and as such when in the pot it has little indentations as it were, and these let grinds through into the top of the press which is obviously annoying.
The other day I tried flattening to filter with a load of heavy books, I may try for a longer time if you think that's a good idea, otherwise, any other ideas? Maybe buy a new one, are there other filters available than just metal mesh ones?

These shouldn't crease easily--I've had my Bodum press for about 20 years and am still using the original screen. I've put minor bends back into shape by bending in the reverse direction. If you're not getting a good seal it's time to order a new filter screen. I don't know of any substitute screen different from the original, but Sweet Maria's sells a nylon mesh screen to use in addition to the wire mesh screen.

Thanks for the comments on this everyone. It is more at the edges, where it sweeps along the glass, there are little kinks, and grinds just fly through, not to mention any finer dust that inevitably is there, so the 'sludge' in the cup can be really large, I mean, I don't mind a little at the bottom, but it's just silly.
That nylon insert sounds like a very good idea for helping the finer dust, so maybe I should just buy a new metal filter gauze, and then that nylon one too, do you know of anywhere that sells them in the UK by chance? I'm going to look now :-)

thought I'd drop a quick note to let you know that I sent an email to Bodum mentioning that it had gotten creased, and what ways I could remedy this, or if I would just need to buy a new one. They were friendly enough to ask what size my press was and just send me another one, so if you experience a similar problem, just let them know. I didn't give any detail on age of product, I was really just asking a question, (and about to buy a new filter off of eBay!).

Good for you, Charlie. It's always nice to hear of interactions with businesses that know the true meaning of customer relationships. They've comped you a part that cost them a pittance and in exchange have generated good will in a current user who has already passed his experience on to others. Viral marketing is far more powerful that any paid advertisement, but some just don't seem to see this. Many delicious cups from the revitalized press.

I've had similar situations with Bodum. They are a great company to deal with. I love all my Bodum presses. But Charlie something I don't understand why didn't you just buy a new filter from the beginning? They aren't that expensive especially considering the use you'll give it. But things turned out great in the end for you, happy to hear you've been taken good care of.
