I was so excited, after reading all the great descriptions of the Presto Scandinavian, to search Google for it, and at the top of the page, what did I find, under Shopping results for presto scandinavian, lo and behold, a link to a store selling it!
But...I was suspicious. I tried calling the phone number on the website. Disconnected. I tried emailing the company...bounced right back. Finally I looked at the website from the email.
It resolved to some cheesy website Bargains2U.com. I called them, and it was an interesting story.
It turns out that the Yahoo store is the old Service Merchandise, but it's been shut down for years. The guy at Bargains2U.com bought the name, but he can't get Yahoo to take the other site down. That is why the Presto was still there. It's like a time warp! And I fell right into it!
Moral of the story, if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is!
I guess I have to settle for a Newco or Technivorm. Boo hoo!
Hey, don't cry too much. I had one of these and it died in about a year - not to mention that the carafe couldn't actually pour the coffee into the cup without covering the counter/floor in the process. I was really disappointed.
The coffee tasted pretty good while it lasted, though.

I've still got a Presto that has been making great coffee for the past two and half years. Granted it was only being used daily for a year and a half since I have now switched over to FP but I still break it out every now and then when I'm in a rush or am brewing for a large amount of people. Too bad they don't make these things anymore. Truly a great brewer for the price. I'll have to cherish mine while it lasts.

I dug out my old Presto Scan last week as I had a number of house guests and needed to make more coffee than what my Krups Moka Brew could produce. The Presto was working fine when I put it away but something happened I guess as it would not pump but a drop or two of water. Good while it lasted and I suppose I got a good year or two from it before moving on the the Moka Brew.

In my experience these machines don't hold up for very long either. You're not really missing anything as the Newco and Technivorm offerings are much better IMO. I'm currently using the Moccamaster CD.

My Presto Scandinavian is still holding up pretty well so far (hope it stays that way), although I don't use it much anymore since buying a French press. Based on feedback, they don't really hold up well over time but when working properly they are great brewers. If only they built them to last...

Thanks for the feedback. The funny thing is that I finally found a Presto on eBay, purchased it for roughly $70, and then when I tested it, it had a terrible chemical taste in the water reservoir. Several cleanings later, I gave up and returned the coffee maker to the seller, who to her credit took it back without any complaint.
A while later I got lucky and found a local guy on craigslist who is selling a very nice mocha master Technivorm for a ridiculously low price. It was a little bit used, and the carafe quite coffee stained, but overnight cleaning with the cleaner Oxyclean fix that right up.
And I have to agree that compared to the Presto, my new Mocha Master is durable, dependable, and makes terrific coffee. My search for the ultimate coffeemaker is over. And I am glad. Along the way I picked up one of those infamous Mellita coffee makers, which also makes very good coffee, but I prefer watching the elegant operation of my Technivorm.
Anyway, I thought I'd share that story with you guys, as I appreciate all of the feedback and all of the support. This forum has helped me a lot in figuring out what coffee equipment I needed or didn't need.
