How do I clean the bottom carafe of my yama 8-cup brewer? Simply rinsing is not enough, and I obviously cannot stick my hand in to clean it with a washcloth, so what to do?
Sweetmaria's has a decent brush. You use the outer extremity to clean the 8-cup and a tip of the brush to clean the 5-cup.
I typically just thread a nice wet dish cloth in there and shake the dickens out of it. The friction of the cloth with the soapy water brings it clean. I make sure I give the pot repeated rinses with hot water to remove the soap residues.

You guys have it all wrong ...!!
The main source of baked on crud is not the inside, but the outside.
I have a shallow flat cover for a ceramic pot. I put my YAMA in that cover, pour 2 or 3 oz of CLR around it on the outside and another 2 or 3 oz inside the carafe (just in case there's some crud inside) and let it soak for a few hours.
Then I run it through the dishwasher.
So it's squeaky clean on the inside but the outside is not entirely successful. Still crud on the bottom. So how to get it off?

Hmmm, well if you have that Jerry., your source of burner fuel is suspect & not 'clean' enough IMHO.
I use Methyl Hydrate 99.9% pure. It burns with an almost invisible flame, is hotter'n hell! & leaves absolutely no deposit/soot {;-) You can purchase this in a one liter size & a 4 liter (slightly downsized 3.78 liter) jug at good ol' Canadian Tire.

I should have been more specific: Mostly I use my glass-top stove. That glass surface is cleaned first with a glass scraper (razor blade) and then with an abrasive polish. But if the burner has not been recently cleaned, any 'crud' on the burner moves to the bottom of the carafe.
Now, the inside should not get any 'crud' unless you keep heating the brewed coffee for an hour or two, and no-one on this forum would admit to that.
And btw, is Isopropyl Alcohol (sold in drug-stores as 'rubbing alcohol') the same as Methyl Hydrate (hardware stores, 'shellac thinners')?

Craig, in doing some searches regarding the yamas, I have noticed that there are many things about vacuum pots that you have posted multiple times for repeat questions. Has anyone given any thought to doing an FAQ page for the different forums (like they have at HB) so that folks can browse through all the commonly asked questions through their most pertinent posts?
