Here's the situation: I have a CoffeeTec that I loathe. I am out of Durgol so the brew time is getting slower and slower. I had planned on purchasing a Saeco Vienna Deluxe espresso machine in mid-April and maybe a vacuum pot on the side. Here's the problem, my husband and I are moving from New York to Washington D.C (thank God) in December. We'd move the Saeco ourselves so that the nice Army movers don't steal it or destroy it (like they did to all our other stuff last time), but are we better off waiting until we move to purchase the Saeco? The other issue is the vacuum pot. Thanks to Lexis, I can get a Bodum Santos vacuum pot free of charge. I had planned on waiting until I had more points to get the Black and Decker electric vacuum pot. Am I better off with the Bodum? Bear in mind, that my husband, while wonderful, if fabulous about breaking stuff. That, and we do not have a dishwasher. Thanks for all your help!!!

I think the Bodum will be fine. I can't imagine an electric being any easier to deal with.
All vacuum pots are very high on the "breakable" scale. They are rather large and clumsy to handle, especially when hot. The upper chamber in particular seems to want to roll off a counter. I live in a home with three small children, so it is only a question of time before it breaks.
The only way to solve this is to be careful, and have an extra pot available for the inevitable accidents. The brew it produces makes it all worthwhile.

Well, for me, waiting from April thru December for a coffee making item, well, I'd not wait. ;-) But, OTOH, you might want to take the measurements (usually Whole Latte Love has them on their site) & cut some cardboard to the size, so you can visualize it. Then decide if it would be something you'd want to move yourselves, if you aren't going to entrust it to the movers. (But isn't there insurance on that stuff?)
If you're referring to the Bodum electric vac pot (they make stove tops, too), I have both sizes & love them. Although I often run the top part, lid & filter through the dishwasher, they are also not hard to wash by hand, either. the bottom part is never to be run through the dishwaser or submerged in water.
If, OTOH, you're talking getting a Bodum stove top vs a B&D electric, I'd wait for the electric. Again, for me, it's just easier to deal with electric. I used to have a Yama stovetop & was always afraid the glass pot on the burner would break. And the ones that use the tea lights, while romantic & elegant, just don't fit into making coffee at 5:30 a.m. when I can barely see to walk. ;-)
