After making sure its unplugged from the outlet:
1) Remove bottom (6 screws).
2) Remove plastic water guard (2 screws)
3) Locate the failed fuse (ohmmeter).
4) Slide fuse out of clip (if its the one in the clip).
5) Slide the fuse out of the plastic sleeve.
6) Cut out the fuse, twist the wires, together, and solder the wires.
7) Tape the solder joint and slide the joint back into the plastic sleeve.
8) Reassemble..

After doing this you need to be sure you are protected from the coffee maker with a working ground-fault circuit breaker no larger than 20 amp. Also a 500V hot-pot test of the heater element-to-ground is advised
if ANY signs of water damage are observed near the element..

Hello Oldgearhead. My apologies for reviving an old thread, however I wonder if you still have your DCM900? My Krups superauto died after 3 years use, and I decided to go try the DCM900 from amazon for around $50. I know that it has some bugs, but if they happen it appears I could fix them at my shop. Len

Why would you bypass a fuse, solder in a new fast blow 20 amp fuse if that's the size required, don't know the size of the heating element but I suspect 1000 to 1200 watt, if that's the case 15 amp would be good. Radio shack would have a little cheapee soldering iron for under $10.00. If you can't do it your self U must know somebody in the electrical field that could do it for you, or after it is opened up take it to a small appliance repair place and have them install maybe a small inline fuse that you can replace when needed. I bought one of these about a year ago and it lasted a week it really did a good job of making coffee and looked very nice. The only down side for me was the build quality was very flimsy, you had to be very careful with it moving it around.

Dead at day 616! The plastic mountintg plate between the cold water tank and the heat section is badly warped. It was great to have +203F water for almost two years.

I wanted to know what caused the demise of my DCM900, so I tore it down. I found: 1) The cold side got so hot the plastic adapter located between the cold tank and the heat tube system melted. 2) The heat tube was plugged with calcium. Cause: 1) Water softener failure. 2) Me not getting around to fixing it (water softener) right away. 3) Me not descaling the DCM900 the last time the little light was blinking. Action: 1) Ordered new riser tube, screen, and resin for water softener. 2) Ordered another DCM900. Why another DCM900? 1) Because its $50.00 (delivered), not $200.00. 2) Has an excellent coffee filter system (Melitta or Gold)? 3) It gets the water hot (206F). 4) If Mr. Lincoln tasted the coffee from my Mr.Coffee backup, he would order tea.

I've been using my second 'new-old-stock') DCM900 for a few weeks now, it's a good time to check the water temperature. I have an extra plastic filter basket with a hole for the thermocouple, so it's an eaesy task: Water level in filter basket/ temperature 20%/196DF 40%/198DF 60%/204DF 80%/203DF 100%/204DF Interesting to note, the second DCM900 is a couple of degrees F cooler than the first one was at 204-206F. Coffee taste is a bit better to me...

It would be nice if there was a coffee brewer available where you didn't have to buy an extra basket with a hole in it and a thermocouple to find out if the machine was working properly...
