So looking into all the manual pour over options out there (Melita, V60, Kalita, Beehive, etc) I noticed a lot of coffee shops use some kind of shelf system for setting up the brewers. One specific brand I came across was TruBru. Glancing at their site to see if I wanted to pick up a 2 or 4 position shelf for the house, but I froze when I saw the prices. $185 for a 2 position shelf and $300 for a 4 position unit. (Both prices we're sans brewers.)

So looking more into the pour over stand offerings I found TruBru isn't the only high priced (justified or not) pour over stand out there, so it looks like that's just how these things are priced. That being the case I started searching the net for DIY pour over stand ideas and found a couple to start with:

Jared Rutledge posted at Barista Exchange about one he made.

I also found another in a blog entry at Cafe Imports which had a decidedly more industrial look.

So having seen evidence that there are non-craftsmen like me are out there making there own I'm thinking about making my own as well and wanted to see if any CG members had built their own they could post pictures of for inspiration to me and others try to be a bit more thrifty in our coffee gearing expenditures.

I appreciate this thread and plan on following closely. Quick question, though - are you looking for any sort of scalability (2-3 stations/drippers) or just a single?

I like the industrial one; the piping makes for a sturdy design, and the fittings should aid in making clean junctions/angles/etc. Bet my grand-dad has the bits for this in his shop (he worked for AC corp his entire adult life until retirement).

For me personally I will probably make a 3 or 4 position pour over stand as I expect I will have an opportunity to use it when company is over. I like the pipe style for its sturdiness, but wold likely add some cross pieces on the top part to provide more defined positions for the pour overs to sit. I realize having it open between the bars along the whole length makes it more versatile, but I'm one of those people who looks for symmetry in all things when possible.

Here is another variation of the pipe style. I like the rings, but I'd have to see what the dimensions are on the Kalita Waves I want to use.

Copper pipe.  Easy to work with, nearly infinite design possibilities, and pretty cheap.  The design needs to be yours or it's not DIY.  Worst case you hate it and throw it out - $10 in copper?  Post pics!
