Due to light sleepers in the house I need to find a quieter kettle than the cuisinart or Hamilton beach models I've tried. Anyone able to comment on the bonavita? Thanks.

Hi Ben, welcome to CG. My Bonavita electric kettle does not whistle but does produce a sound similar to what you get when boiling a pot of water on the stove.
I chew coffee beans with my teeth while gargling with 195 F water to enjoy coffee. What is this "coffee brewing" device you speak of?

The grinder is by far my biggest concern when it comes to waking up one of the sleeping beauties in the morning, but my Bonavita kettle makes very little noise. Basically the same noise as a teapot on the stove without the whistling. If the noise of boiling water wakes up someone I think the miscellaneous noises made as you bang your way back to consciousness would have probably already done the job.

Thanks for the feedback. Folks here are such light sleepers that I grind while walking the dog with my hario mini mill. The other two electric kettles I tried sound like jet engines according to the boss in my house. Maybe I'll give the bonavita a shot.

Of all the electric kettles I've used, the Bodum Ibis is probably the quietest. It heats the water with a submerged coil rather than indirectly through the bottom. The others I've used are the Pino Pro (my current one) and a Melitta.

Be sure to take a look at the Zojirushi Zutto Dispensing Pot. Stays cool on outside, you can select temperature, and is quiet. It's kinda spendy but a really nice gadget.
