Congrats on the grinder purchase! I love my Preciso for pour overs, aero press, French press, and siphons. I have it paired with an Esatto. It's such a simple straight forward grinder but the quality of grounds are really the highlight of the machine. Enjoy!

I just went through this decision myself (for drip/vac instead of aeropress) & have an incoming 586, but especially if you are willing to buy the ditting burrs to go along with it i'd say stick with the vario you already have on the way. The vario's advantages as I understand them: -stronger motor, bigger burrs -aluminum burr carrier, fewer plastic internals -ceramic burrs last 2x as long & are cooler, OR... -ditting burrs for most consistent coarse grinds -quieter than virtuoso/preciso -Less clumping at finer setting -less heat in grinds -more features, the slider settings, the W's integrated scale, lcd display etc. -if you opt for the W, it's actually shorter than the preciso/virtuoso + esatto attachment (&only 1cm taller without).
I agree that the Vario is a great machine with a lot of advantages. You really can't compare the burrs seeing as one is flat and one is conical. To me, it seems like apples and oranges. The retention in my Preciso at drip settings has been less than a gram any time that I clean it. Initially, I noticed static in the sweeper fins area and in the grounds bin, but after a couple weeks both went away. It's as if I had to break in the plastic for the static to go away. The only thing I see stick to anything is chaff, which is actually kind of nice.
When I went through my grinder purchasing research I worried a lot about whether or not I made the right choice and, "what if, what if..." It's more important to enjoy the machine you have and the coffee it grinds rather than worry if you made the right choice.

Yeah static & retention have been nonfactors so far with the virtuoso, so I don't know how much more you can improve there anyway. It seems so many end up choosing between the vario vs. Virtuoso/preciso, I was just summarizing some of the reported advantages I'd read. Since I've had the 586 & have seen how well it grinds, I'm not looking back either. Apart from the plastic carrier, which I was aware of before buying, my complaints are just nitpicks really.
