Adam, I don't have any Melitta 8-12 basket filters. What I do have from all of my various Bunn brewers & others is the Bunn A10/Retail - 8 & 10 cup filters (Product # 20106.0000 8½" x 3") & they were too tall & I had to trim them to fit.
The Bunn Regular (Product # 20115.000 9¾" x 4¼") were too tall also.

69 grams of a 4-day old homeroast blend of Gedeo Worka and Nicaragua Dipilto Cielo Azul. 204°, 1:20 pre-soak, 1.2L in the metal filter was absolutely spectacular. Fruit, spice, and chocolate notes were all nicely layered and the cup had beautiful body. Possibly the finest cup of drip coffee I've ever had. Dang!

Adam, The filter basket will the BraZen is such a microfine screen hole size that the coffee is very clean (I leave about an ounce or so in the carafe to prevent carryover) that all but two of the brews were with the basket!

I must admit, previously I despised gold filters but am beginning to really enjoy the cup using it.
I do set the grind a tad coarser but it's a fine cup. My wife who rarely comments on the cup did so this morning w/ gold filter- 4 day old Guat El Injerto Pacamara just at the edge of 2C w/tiny amount of oil droplets on a few beans.

Also a heads up.. our ISP decided to switch email servers on us Friday but failed to notify us of the pending change except in an email to the new server. Problem was we didn't know of the server nor couldn't access the server to get the messages, someone from the iSP failed to reset the password
Point is we were down for receiving emails (since about 7pm Pacific Firday) until a few hours ago, so if anyone tried emailing- apologies for the inconvcenience and slow responses
REMINDER: Never leave the roaster unattended when in use !! And remember to use our Rosetta Stone tip PART V PARAGRAPH 3.. it works !!!

hey joe, i wiped the lid down and it seems to have helped with the smell. i noticed that went i stuck my nose into the water reservoir, i'd get a good wiff of stink. i just wiped down all the plastic exterior areas and the top black plastic surround area and im running another cleaning cycle. Hopefully that'll do the trick.
*back to craigslist now to find a drip grinder* :P

i just finished the cleaning and the steam from the carafe is quite stinky(this is probably close to the 10th cleaning). not gonna attempt to taste it. i have all the parts of the machine off now and i'm gonna let them all air dry like you suggested.
