I just bought a Bonavita 1800 Thermal a couple of weeks ago and have been making great coffee with it. Also bought a Chemex and likewise, a great cup of coffee. Used Sumatra Mandheling and Costa Rican Minta.
While I was looking for a "Pour over kettle" for the Chemex (I'm presently using my Titanium camping tea kettle!) I got the bright idea about doing the "Initial small pour to let the coffee blossom" that I do with the Chemex......with the Bonavita.
So, after I heated the Bonavita thermal carafe with boiling water, and placing the filter and ground coffee on the top......BEFORE I put it under the Bonavita to drip, I just did an INITIAL pour with a small amount of heated water and let the coffee bloom about 45 seconds. Then, pushed the carafe with ground filled top and "bloomed coffee" under the Bonavita to start the brewer.
I tested the coffee by doing it the regular way and the one with the initial pour over. I found the pour over to be a better taste.....more complex!
I'm sure someone has already tried this, but I was kind of excited!! A sort of matching of the 2 great systems!
Perhaps someone else who has tried this could chime in with their results. It seems a simple process and I certainly can tell the difference.
Now, when I'm in a hurry for the first cup in the morning, I may just do it the normal way. But for afternoons, the pour over method is preferred. '

Sounds like a great method to me. I have also heard about owners using the Bonavita as a hot water delivery system for their Hario V60 cone and Kalita Wave too. Not sure if the original carafe still works with those devices, but manual pour over fans usually have a couple sizes of carafes handy.
I chew coffee beans with my teeth while gargling with 195 F water to enjoy coffee. What is this "coffee brewing" device you speak of?

I read a blog on draw coffee that mentions using it with a Chemex and the Hario cone. My Chemex is too large but I have tried my Hario underneath the shower head for fun. : )
