Using the regular method (non-inverted):
24g of coffee, ground about the size of table salt on a virtuoso Water off the boil Stir for 10 seconds Press for 20 seconds
It makes great tasting coffee. However, I only get about 6oz of drinkable liquid after topping off. If I tried to add more water, it becomes too weak.
Caffeine wise, it seems about right. I just wish I could fill my mug up more.
I've tried the inverted method (I don't like this as much for whatever reason) and it's the same story. I fill the cylinder up, which is about 8oz of water, but after pressing it through, there's only about 6 and if I add much more, it's too weak.
This is quite the contrast from my Clever Dripper, which I usually end up with about double the liquid that's about the same strength.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a way to get more liquid, same amount of caffeine, that's not too weak?

You're using too much ground coffee, and underextracting it with a ridiculously short infusion time.
I use this recipe which was submitted during the Prima Disk Fine contest and I get wonderful results. Follow it to a T.
Inverted 15.5g coffee Medium-fine grind (Grind just a bit finer than a V60) 250mL water Flip at 1:00 Press at 2:15 Finish at 2:30
You'll still get around 8oz of coffee...but at least you'll stop wasting so much!
Netphilospher has a nice recipe for making a concentrated brew and then diluting it to full strength after. Might wanna search around for that...it yields significantly more.

I don't like the inverted method. The whole thing seems like it's going to explode and get scalding water and coffee grounds all over the place.
I'm simply following the instructions that it came with. I like it because it leaves room to make more than one mug of coffee (whereas inverted seems forever stuck only making one mug).
Is there no love for the regular method out there?
Furthermore, I'm not worried about the flavor (the regular method has great flavor) or wasting coffee. I'm asking about the drinkable volume at the end. Is that something everyone just deals with using the aeropress?

What you are encountering is typical with the aeropress. It gobbles coffee. Try this: Grind a bit finer, and stir briskly for 30 seconds instead of the 10. I believe you will enjoy the result. I also have a clever and use a gold filter with it; the gold filter produces a brew similiar to french press.

Maybe if you have half a brain and are a complete klutz. I have never had an Aeropress "explode" on me, and I use it inverted exclusively. I recommended Netphilosophers concentrated brew recipe. Just search around for it..
Other than that, it's common sense than you can't push out more water than you can fit in the device...not sure how you haven't realized that.

Wow, so quickly we've jumped to insults. I like how you didn't answer my question at all, instead provided another method that yields the same exact problem I stated in my original post and then got all defensive when I didn't accept it. I appreciate you trying to help. I simply don't like the inverted method, and Ikknow I'm not the only one who finds it precarious.

Lawd...I didn't insult you at all. You fear the Aeropress exploding when using it inverted..and I said you'd have to be a complete klutz for that to happen. I didn't say "YOU, SYNIC. ARE A COMPLETE KLUTZ!".
I recommended a method to make a concentrated brew that you've now twice ignored. You don't HAVE to invert your Aeropress with that method but it would sure help.
Be careful with that Aeropress. Wouldn't want to lose a hand or anything...

Evan, the genius of the aeropress is even if you did lose a hand you could still make an aeropress. You would, though, have to hold the press with your available hand (unless you lost both), and press down on the plunger with your forehead.
A word of caution: Can produce neck strain after repeated use.
