Might be of assistance. Need to know: What problem(s) is the machine having? Not heating up? Water not flowing? Weak Steam? Worst possible problem = severe interior corrosion from scale. Feeding machines unfiltered water can cause permanent damage. Please, spend no money trying to fix broken parts as newer machines rival this dinosaur.

thanks for your response it wont turn on at all -so no electrical power-they changed the fuse but said it was the whole menu panel that needs to be replaced they couldnt get one from ECM in Vancouver as they dont make them anymore and dont have any spare parts for this we do have a water filter does the machine have any value? should we keep it in case theres a spare part somewhere else? any recommendations for a newer machine? -- for home use but entertain a lot so love good coffee with a steamer option thanks again

-la Marzocco GS/3 can satisfy any seasoned barista with paddle controlled extraction. -la Spazialle S1 has excellent temperature stability programming and plenty of steam . -Rancillio Epoca can produce high volumes of great espresso for large gatherings. -Pasquini Livia all chrome machine matches modern kitchens worldwide. Makes good coffee also. These machines made great coffee for me, but I spent a fortune perfecting them. Simonelli Personal 1 seems worthless, so maybe post an add for parts, as is. lacoffeemills@gmail.com

thanks again for your advice that la Spazialle looks beautiful--so do you have one and how is it generally? and how much is it to buy in Canada and where would I purchase one? a friend mentioned Espresso Tech in Richmond sells Pavoni Lever 16 eup? have you heard of them or that machine? still sad about the death of my machine and our Bradley smoker just died today too anyways thanks and any info is greatly appreciated

I can not argue about the quality of the machines recommended to you but I think they were a bit more than you might need.
Do you have a budget? How many of what kind of drinks do you make in a day? what about a grinder, you will need a very good one to get the most out of any advanced espresso machine, the grinder is more important than the espresso machine. Think in the $700+ range for new.
Many people love levers and would not make espresso any other way but they are very different than what you are used to. You might like or love them or you might loth them, I advise using one before purchase.

Thanks for your feedback We have a Nuova Simonelli AMM-AMMT grinder (which I really like) In terms of machines our budget is approximately $2500 --we do entertain a lot every week and have our usual couple cups every day We have never used a lever machine--what are the pros and cons of that? We do have a water filter plumbed in from our previous machine What are your thoughts on buying used versus new(warranty)? Thanks for the tips so far

We just looked at the Swiss made Jura units today--specifically the Impressa F50 --any comments, thoughts on this machine? We are limited in our city but are heading to Vancouver and Victoria soon to do some real coffee distributor shopping. It is a beauty machine but it seems weird to just push a button to make your coffee--I guess I have been enjoying the participatory creation process. Am open to any suggestions...

No super-automatic machine is going to make coffee that comes close to what the NS Personal was capable of. Not even the Quick Mill Monza, which is the only super-auto I would even consider at this point. The grinders usually aren't capable enough, distribution and tamping are beyond any control, and extraction can't be stopped early to save a shot or pushed a little longer in necessary. What you get is better than *$, but nothing that you'd write home about. It will never provide a transcendent shot.
Super-autos are about convenience, not about providing great coffee. At their best, they provide passable coffee that's better than most chain coffee shops. Seeing that you know what good espresso is, I don't think you'd be happy in the long run with one.
