I currently have a Vario grinder that I use for both espresso and drip coffee. But the Vario makes coffee that is rough that make a muddy result when using for drip coffee.
Therefore, what is the best grinder for drip coffee? My budged is not unlimited, but I will pay for very good quality.

Maybe your grinder needs a cleaning. Run some minute rice (uncooked) through it, increasing and decreasing the grind level as it grinds. Keep doing that until the rice comes out clean (without coffee mixed in).
Good habit to get into.

Lots of people use the Vario for all their grinding needs. They love the results. Who am I to argue?
That said, I am a firm believer that no machine can do everything perfectly and thus I have different grinders for different methods. I find for Drip coffee the Bunn I have does a GREAT job but then I am off the deep end a bit, the G92HD is larger than most members espresso machines and it is designed for use in high volume settings. YMMV!
Does the Vario comes apart like the other Baratza grinders? I was under the impression that it does. Take off hopper, remove top burr, and use the included bursh or other means to clean burrs. My Baratza Virtuoso works quite well for drip. Maybe worn burrs? Are you using paper filters?
Evening Steinreck, have the same problem myself. Most threads will lead to the virtuoso preciso for the best filter grinder, or possibly the new steel burrs for the vario which ars dedicated filter burrs. Both are highly respected , more reviews on the preciso as its been around longer. The grinder at the top of my list for drip is the mahlkonig guatemala lab grinder. I'm pretty sure this is out of your budget(and out of mine).
Until then I'm very happy with my baratza virtuoso with upgraded preciso burrs. If this is going to be used alongside the vario, definitely go for the cheaper virtuoso w/preciso burrs over the preciso.
