Last year I started a thread about 'what to do' about Bloom. I had a lot of it. In my Aeropress I could see half the space was bloom and instead of half a cup of concentrate I got 1/3 cup. In my Krups Moka Brew I could see 4 inches of bloom in the transparent carafe.
I don't want to resurrect that thread. My problem now is ...no bloom, at all, ever.
I have been working through 20 lbs of various batches of Sumatra, and for all of them, there is NO BLOOM.
I rest my roasts for 3 days and finish using them by 2 weeks later. I should have bloom but I don't.
Are there any opinions out there? In particular, is 'no bloom' evidence that I am doing something wrong? I roast 10 oz to FC+ using P1 A and go to cool at around 18 minutes.

When you had bloom were you using roasts that had not rested as long? Were you using hotter water in the aeropress? Both of these can increase bloom.

Actually, Len, I do (and did) use water that was slightly less than 190F in the Aeropress. The Krups Moka Brew has it's own water heater and boils up and regulates on pressure (I think) and has always been the same.
I am suggesting that either Sumatra is different from other beans and does not make bloom or somehow I am doing something wrong.

In the past, I recall noticing the Sumatras (even if lightly roasted) did not have as much bloom. I never thought about it until now.
Didn't you have a ton of experience with Sumatra, though? This sounds like a change in your observations.

Most importantly - how does it taste?

Hmm, not roasting my own beans, but I did recently buy a Sumatra from a local roaster that was date stamped as roasted 4 days prior.
It did not bloom with my CCD the way my other beans usually do. The beans, once ground, looked "chaffier" than other beans, which is what I attributed to the reduced bloom.
Still tasted yummy (slightly earthier than most), so I was not overly concerned, plus, I only bought 1lb...
