Just got it.Washed everything I could detach, twice. Now I'm "blank" brewing, just fresh water -> no beans -> brew -> dump produced hot water. Lid is under a sodium hydrogen carbonate paste, so the "brewing" is done with a plate on top. Also the filter basket isn't in place for this. Water just falls directly from the plastic dispersion enclosure. It still tastes "plasticy" at run #7.
Also, I got a t-shirt with it, yay! Sadly, I doubt too many people will know what it means.

Like I've said way earlier in this long thread Jericho, use some cheap beans to do a real brew cycle through it to scavenge out the odor/plastic taste & discard that if you need to. I never had a problem from the start..

As I've posted previously, on day one I also had the strong plastic smell/taste even after numerous water only runs and brewing a full pot of coffee. Re-washing all the removable plastic parts and letting them air dry overnight solved it completely. Since then I've detected zero plastic smell in the carafe or taste in the coffee I've brewed. I really couldn't be happier with this machine.
Yep. Based on the reports I've seen here there does seem to be initial differences in the level of plastic. You say you didn't have a problem from the start. With mine I ran about 5 full pots of water through it after calibration, then brewed a pot of coffee. The plastic taste in that first brew was so strong that after just a couple of sips I had to dump it, and the plastic taste stayed in my mouth for several hours. It was really bad. The odor coming out of the carafe could best be described as "fumes". I was actually very surprised the next morning when I couldn't detect any of that smell or taste in the coffee. So I just try to encourage new users when I see their posts about it.

I am thankful this holiday season that no brewer I have spent money on gave off foul odors from the beginning except one - a Gevalia brewer that found the trash bin quickly...
I chew coffee beans with my teeth while gargling with 195 F water to enjoy coffee. What is this "coffee brewing" device you speak of?

If you make coffee with it, it's fine. No foulness. However, if you remove the filter basket and just make hot water: the resultant is "foul" water. (for making tea!)
I was mostly wondering if the rest of you guys experienced this effect or do you guys only make coffee with it?
