My very 1st attempt didn't go well this morning!
I didn't realize it & totally all my fault, but I didn't have the plunger inserted far enough into the cyclinder & it must of cocked/tilted off to one side slightly. I was standing there bare chested by the counter beside the sink & had scalding hot water & coffee slurry shoot across the top of two fingers on my right hand & a BIG swath of the slurry right across my mid section right above the belly button & to my right! {:-O
Dam that was HOT lol!
I'm ok though, & my 2nd attempt went without a hitch & I made a very good 10 oz mug of Colombian Supremo. {;-)
P.S. Ordered a regular & fine disks from Able Brewing around lunch time today Mon Nov 12th. Where I was going to order from here in Canada, for one regular disk was $16.25 & $0.99 cent shipping, ordering from Able the regular price is $12.50 for one, $20.00 for the combo pack & only $5.00 for USPS shipping! So by ordering direct from Able Brewing Equipment Inc & buying two disks, I saved $6.25 per filter & a total savings of $12.50. Total USD cost is $25.00 & total Paypal Canadian conversion cost was $25.66 versus $34.48 (2 disks & 2 $0.99 cent shippings) here in Toronto! {;-)
P.P.S. I just ordered & only found out about over on the HB forums yesterday Mon Nov 12th, a Kaffeologie S filter Tues Nov 13th at 11:45am. I'm set for life now lol! {;-)

First off Ive got to say the aeropress makes great coffee, ive got two, one for home and one for work, been using them happily for years. However, has anyone else had the top of the plunger break off? I really dont think I misused it in any way, but one day it just cracked right around the lip you push on leaving a jagged edge. Even worse tho was when I contacted customer services via email to ask if it was a known issue and if the plunger was avaliable as a spare I didnt even get a reply. I initially bought my first aeropress as I thought it would be more durable than a french press, now I much prefer the coffee it makes but am reluctant to buy another.

<sweepy>, not getting a reply is not acceptable.
Alan (Aeropress inventor) will undoubtedly read your post and respond here at some point. But you should also bring this matter up with Alex Tennant, the general manager of Aerobie. Actually you should bring up the matter of the broken plunger top but also the matter of not receiving a response from customer service. I'm sure he would want to address that.
Another question people might want to get an answer to is whether this plunger was made of the original polycarbonate or the newer stuff.
The thread was combined together from several threads into one gigantic Aeropress thread years ago.

At any rate, please call us at 800-999-3565 or 650-493-3050. We will send you a replacement immediately. Our policy has always been to replace broken parts without requiring that the customer return that part. In other words, we trust you.
Perhaps you had contacted a retailer, rather than Aerobie. If so, what retailer? I'd like to train them.
Alan, I wasn't aware that Aerobie offered any sort of guarantee. I don't recall seeing that on the packaging or in the instructions.
My Aeropress has been declining in functionality for some time. After about one year the rubber part of the plunger no longer made a consistent seal. There is also strange crazing on the plastic in the cylinder (see attached photo from 7 months ago -- it's worse now).
I assumed that an inexpensive plastic device like this is simply a disposible product. Am I wrong? Does it come with some sort of lifetime guarantee?
I'm not asking for a freebie -- I'm pretty sure a new one is going to be under the Christmas tree -- I'm just curious.

Thank you for your replies folks, what a helpful and friendly forum.
Alan, I emailed aerobie@aerobie.com as per the contact page on the website. I used the subject line 'UK customer service. I have still got the aeropress, and still in service thanks to JB Weld (working so far but not bonny) so will contact the number you gave for a replacement, again, thank you.
I also have the crazing on one of my aeropresses, but have not noticed any deterioration in performance I could attribute to it
