My Yama acted really strange. I used it exclusively for about six months and now I am back to my Hario. It is a world of difference. Dont need to explain it, but it seems to be a truth. It is too bad because I love the idea of having a little more coffee to go around. If I use the Hario I need to make two pots for my wife and I, a small price to pay for the best coffee in the freakin world.

I fill the lower globe of my NCA5 to about .5" above the 5c line so 22 oz of water to 38g of grounds. Same for my NCA3, water slightly above the upper line & 23g of grounds. 45 second steep for both. I grind slightly coarser then the drip setting on my G3.

I received my TCA-5 and have to admit, i do like the taste of the cup of coffee produced by the Hario better than the Yama SY8.. Why that is? I'm not sure.. Ha! Temps in the upper globe are the same but the Hario has noticeably less water in the the bottom after all the water has traveled to the top and the kick down after removing the heat is much quicker! When comparing the cups produced by each side by side, I noticed the cup from the Yama was slightly bitter compared to the Hario.

Sure. Plus there still could be a couple of degrees temp difference in the upper globe, differences in turbulence from the vapor coming up... I'd imagine that you'd need to re-calibrate a bit.
