Funny Rob, you failed to mention the cream cheese (kiddin')! {;-D
You'd think the tightness of the spring would somehow inhibit water movement, but not at all.
I believe it was designed that way so very long ago to cut down on accidents, banging, dropping, dis-lodging the Silex rod in the kitchen. Also it keeps the contact area in the upper pots down spout circumference area where the rods sits in perfect shape.
What I mean by that is on my 8 year old Yama vac pot & after the first year or so I used a Cory rod exclusively. The rod just sits there loosely & at times depending on your degree/rate of heating & especially just when all the water has gone north, right at the very end you get a fairly violent jiggle as the last bit of water & an air pocket/bubble pushes its way past the rod.
Over time this leads to that contact area being abraided by the bumpy textured surface of the bottom area of the rod by the rods movement against that contact area (looks like it's very slightly sandblasted) & I believe that you'd not have this happen with a Silex vac pot & Silex Lox-in rod. I also own the Victory vacuum pot too. {;-)
Measure the length of the neck of the top dome. Start at the point where the filter would be seated and measure to the end of neck that would reach into the lower pot. I have both the short and long Silex/Pyrex units and can tell you which you need.

Hi Greg,
Not to take away from Dave's posts, but I'm here now & can answer you.
I have the Silex Lox-in rod. Overall length from the contact area underneath the rod where it would contact the output tube in the top pot, to the end of the clip on hook is 2¾" long.
The clip would then only have to stretch 1¼" (4" in total length) to hook onto the rim of your tube.
4" length on the Nicro throat calls for the shorter of the two, a Silex Lox-In. (The longer is often referred to as a Pyrex). You will be good to go with the link I left in your quote. Let me know when you want it.
