I want to get the Hamilton Beach single serve machine because I want a single server that doesn't use k-cups or vue cups. What's a good grinder to pair up with it? Is it worth getting a burr grinder or do I just need a cheap bladed one?
If you want to go electric, try Baratza's consumer line. The Encore is their new base model, which performs pretty well over a reasonable range of grinds: Click Here (prima-coffee.com)
Why not save money on a brewer and buy something like an Aeropress or Clever Coffee Dripper? They're cheap, easy to use, and give you a lot more control than a single server.

What is your price range? To answer the question though, yes there will be a difference, a positive one if you buy a good grinder. It need not be able to grind for espresso but all brewing methods will benefit with consistent grinding. Small pieces will over extract very rapidly and big ones will not give much at all in the way of flavor so if they are all of a consistent size, you will get the most flavor from ANY brewing method and hold the over extraction to a minimum with a good grinder.
