Newbie here so please be kind.
My son beamed with pride when I opened my new French press gift he'd purchased for me. I didn't have the heart to tell him the gift is actually a Bodum latteo milk frother.
In looking at this and comparing it to the cheap plastic french press I was about to discard, it looks almost the same mechanically. I assume that it won't produce very high quality pressed brew if I try to use it as such, but will appreciate your comments. I have no use for frothing milk and I see many citations of using a french press for doing so, but none advocating using a milk frother for brewing french press coffee.
Thanks for your perspectives. I did manage to obtain the receipt for returning this.

Interesting thing is Ted, the brewing of coffee in that unit - as a french press - might be less wear and tear on the hardware than it's intended use. Given you go slow and careful while pushing the grounds down to the bottom. Like you note, not the best of all worlds - but it should offer you wonderful memories when he comes visit or wants to enjoy seeing you use it. If you have a comfortable understanding regards exchanges, it looks like it's about 24 $US on the web street. It could be your stepping stone to something YOU'D be proud to remember about your sons gift years down the road of good use and share with your Son: "Thank you for the wonderful gift, let's have some coffee!"

The Bodum FP and frother look nearly identical and I seriously doubt that his memory would be able to tell the difference. If you want FP, sneek back to the store, and exchange it for the FP he thought he was buying for you. You get what you need and it was an honest mistake, like I said, they look nearly identical and unless you make a big deal of it, he would never need know.
Then again if that particular device holds more value to you for the feelings it gives you, then keep it and buy a smaller or larger FP yourself and tell him that his gift inspired you to get another one in a different size so that you could serve more/less coffee at a time. YMMV!
From what I remember, the holes in the screen are larger and it is a looser fit in the bore of the device but otherwise, they are identical.
