jbrady..... sorry just getting back here again. I haven't ordered the Clever Dripper yet as I started looking at the Sowden BUT I tend to favor coffee thru paper filters so the Clever may be still be in play. I do like coffee made with permanent filters so I'm going back and forth with this.
Have found at times I have to adjust my grinder setting with different coffees---don't know if it's the roast or what. I'm not a dark roast drinker. Using the Bonavita, I've been grinding at 11 and 12 on my Virtuoso, depending.
When looking at the chart in the Baratza Manual, Settings 1 to 14 is for Espresso at a Fine Grind, 16 to 32 is for Filter/Drip at a Medium Grind and 34 to 40 is for Press at a Coarse Grind. I found 20 to be fairly Coarse, therefore my questioning IF my grinder was OR was not properly calibrated at the factory. Sort of annoying for a new purchase but as I stated in an earlier post, I can always go finer AND I'm not needing to grind fine enough for Espresso.
Would just be nice to know what the norm is on the Virtuoso, even though this can vary grinder to grinder w/same models. Drainage was to quick up on 15/16 to 20 so had to keep setting lower. Lee_M stated he was grinding on his Encore at 11-13 which is where I am.
