Got up this morning to find our 8 or 9 year old coffee maker dead. Reading some recent reviews online, it seems we were lucky to get this long out of it - lots of complaints of them dying after 2 years or less. We've been happy with it, and I found a relatively new one locally on Craigslist for $30. Just curious with so many of them failing if anyone has tried to repair one, or what the issue may be? Interested to try the mod of installing a more insulated plastic tube to keep the water hotter as it brews, assuming we get the same model.

From my reading, it seems to be the electronics giving out. Our Cuisinart's predecessor was a 10yo Capresso, whose chip decayed after years of exposure to rising steam.
Note that my mod on the DCC-1200 doesn't involve replacing the hot water tube; just putting another piece of tubing around it.
