Subject: Bonavita and outlet timer?

I'm in the market for a new coffee brewer, but i need one with a timer.

The Brazen seems to have too many QC issues (otherwise I'd go with it) for my comfort.  So my question is, would adding an outlet timer to a Bonavita work?

I'm not sure exactly how it functions, so I was hoping someone could help.  If the switch is set to "on" and there's water in it, will it start brewing when it get's power?  Will it brew correctly like this?

Thanks

Sure that would work, but you should use that outlet timer for your Encore grinder, because I'm sure you wouldn't want to grind your coffee the night before. That's just stale coffee in the morning then. So one timer to start grinding the coffee, then your alarm clock goes off, lets say no more than 10 minutes later (gives you five minutes to wake up and walk to the kitchen). Then you put the FRESHLY GROUND coffee in your Bonivita and stand there, look out your kitchen window, take joy in the fact that you actually are alive for another day and then smell how good FRESHLY GROUND coffee smells while it is brewing. Boy, it's going to be a great day, trust me!. Hope this helps and take care!

Jim,
I appreciate that.   My wife wakes up hours before me and wants nothing to do with the coffee process except for consumption.   So I set up a half pot for her the night before and when I get up I make a full or half pot with fresh ground beans.

So back to the actual question.   Do you have hands on experience with the bonavita?   I'm worried that since it has an auto off feature it might power on in the off state and would need to be toggled.

Personally I would never want to put a grinder on a timer. Outside of the fact that most grinders are pushbutton operation and the timer setup wouldn't work anyway (mines digital), I would always want to be present in case a stone or whatever started jamming the thing.  I think we all have experienced that at least once.  Safety first.

I've got one in my office, and I've previously tested this for another poster.  The switch stays on if you unplug the machine, and the auto off is electrically powered (I suspect it actually works by switching the machine off when the element heats up beyond boiling once water stops flowing) as far as I can tell.

To confirm - I just switched it on empty, with power connected.  The switch went off in about 10 seconds.  With the power disconnected, it's now stayed on for a minute or two.

I thought gamehawker had a clever application of the outlet timer with his commercial bunn (always-on reservoir heater), but IDK here.  Those things aren't all that precise anyway, the timers I've used in the past, considering the 15 sec. rule or w/e.  I'm sure they're all super advanced/digital etc, by now, & much better.  It's been years.  Just used on stuff like lamps, nothing critical.

It's still on now as well...  So it should be fine on a timer.
