Either of my Bunn grinders, a G9 or the LPG have zero retention and they both have two bean hoppers so switching between the two is as easy as flipping a switch.
The dose is controlled by a slide valve allowing beans to drop int the grind chamber. The grinder cotinues to run the grinder for about 15 seconds after the gate closes to clear out any and all beans that are waiting to be ground.
You can single dose by only putting in your set volume into the hopper and when that is groud, it is ground. The down side of the grinders is that they are set for one grind, in the case of me, drip so to adjust for other brew methods is not such an easy task as on a grinder that is designed for adjustment between batches. It is adjustable, but it takes a screw drinver and some bending LOL!

I have casually measured the retention of two hand grinders and they both have low retention, a few parts in a thousand for my typical dose, but not zero. My Kyocera CM-50 (aka Hario Skerton) has typically been in the 0 to 5 centigram range and my OE LIDO usually retains a bit more, maybe 3-7 centigrams. I'm kind of making those numbers up as I haven't really written anything down, only noticed the (bean weight) - (grind weight) difference numerous times. When the burrs are freshly cleaned the retention is temporarily higher, so there is probably always a small amount (0.1g?) of old coffee stuck in there, hopefully not causing any problem. Occasionally the grind retention will be slightly negative. This is either a scale error or some retained material from the previous grind subsequently falling out.
When I first got my OE LIDO the retention was very unpredictable. Then I noticed bean fragments on the floor that had popped out of the top, so I added a lid.
22 grams is my magic number. I wonder if lighter roast / harder beans contributes to popcorning?
I have noticed that some coffees are a little stickier or more static-prone and that increases the retention slightly. The way the dust sticks to the adjustment mechanism and that cave-like area below the burrs is the one thing I dislike about the LIDO. It's not a lot of dust in terms of coffee mass but it's messy. It's a messy design which I'm assuming OE is now fixing.
