Is it just me??
I love the coffee my Behmor BraZen makes but have two problems with it that have me ready to replace it.

  1. The inordinate amount of steam that escapes , enough to peel the finish off my cabinets and make it take forever to come to a boil.

  2. It seems almost impossible to pour from the carafe without spilling.

I've had many a coffee machine over the past 30 years  and none have had either of these problems . None have made coffee taste quite as good either.

The problems have been there since I unboxed it and have not changed . Emailing the manufacturer did not result in a response.

Any suggestions????

Dave..

If I may suggest..

There is/ was a thread just below ( Subject: Brazen Carafe- dribble/ Upper portion-spout replacement kit  http://coffeegeek.com/forums/coffee/machines/644879 ) the one you started which will help with the dribble..

It was at the time the 1st thread on the page

It in part discusses the carafe and a kit available for free that addresses the carafe, simply email as instructed and you can solve that.

As to steam... The only source of any steam would be around the grounds basket when water is entering and may condense on the basket it certainly shouldn't rise to the occassion of what you describe..not that we've ever seen..

But in case- what set point are you going for? Do you, after filling the reservoir push the brewer back under the cabinet? I notice you use the word boil..?

Please email tech support with your responses at the same time you request the kit..

Lastly--- I do note you posted here at 8:47 AM Saturday about a lack of response from my tech support people..

Yet you hadn't emailed Behmor Brazen technical support until 3:50PM- Saturday.........   a full 6 hours++ AFTER coming here..

REMINDER: Never leave the roaster unattended when in use !!   And remember to use our Rosetta Stone tip PART V PARAGRAPH 3.. it works !!!

I got a response from Behmor. They indicated they never received my first email. They are sending another water reservoir lid to see if that solves the escaping steam problem. I am also going to try the carafe kit.
I'm very hopeful this will solve the problem , it would be very hard for me to go back to another machine after tasting the coffee the Brazen makes.

I went through the procedure Behmor recommends and wound up with a set point of 210 degrees. Maybe I should repeat the process and see if that makes any difference.  My guess is that I just got a defective lid.
And no, we moved the machine out next to the sink away from anything else and put a towel over the top.

If you haven't reduced the temp from 210 to a proper brewing temperature, there's part of your steam issue right there. unless you're very close to sea level, 210 is boilling the water, which you dpn't want (Berea is at 1100 feet where that's the boiling temperature, as it turns out) and is also too hot for proper extraction. Try reducing the brewing temperature to 202 or 204 degrees.

Behmor was kind enough to provide me with a new lid for the machine and a new lip for the carafe.
The new lip on the carafe solved the problem instantly.
The new lid helped and by reducing the brew temp 2 degrees at a time down to 202 I got to where there is no appreciable steam being released from the reservoir.
I really appreciate Behmor's help because  this is by far the best coffee I've gotten out of a drip machine in the 40 years I've been buying them. Its been a revelation in fact. I'm now able to get coffee at home at least as good as I get out of my favorite coffee shops.
Between this and my Londinium I expresso machine I've been in caffeine  heaven  the past 6months

thanks for everyones help
