Subject: 4 Cup Coffee Maker?

I am going off to college and I need a small 4 cup coffee maker to come with me. I was originally set on buying the Starbucks Quattro 4 cup coffee maker but unfortunately have had some trouble finding a store that has one still in stock. I see ebay as an option and will go to it if indeed the other options out their are not as good, but the slight delima has me looking for others anyways.

Right now the only option I have seen that looks at least remotely like a decent machine is the Delonghi 4 cup Thermal Travel Mug Coffeemaker. It uses the stainless still Carafe similar to what the Quattro uses. I have read some bad things about other Delonghi coffeemakers, but I do not know how that translates to other coffeemakers in the Delonghi line.

Are their any other options for a good 4 cup coffeemaker?

I am also interested in these "Brew In Cup" brewers like the Cuisineart Two 'n Go Coffeemaker, but not sure how most people feel about them... For college though it looks like a good idea to me.

Thanks guys.

the cuisinart 2-to-go idea is a great one, but fails miserably upon implementation.  The cups are horrible and the machine brews unevenly (more in one cup than the other).  We're happy with our old melitta 4-cup drip pot.  I'd also recommend a Chemex Pot, which can brew anywhere from 1-8 cups (depending on the pot).

Does such a small coffee maker necessarily warrant a thermal carafe?

Hi Jonathan...
Hey check this out!

http://coffeegeek.com/proreviews/quickshot/brewngo/details

Mark says it makes better coffee than 4 cuppers, and the deluxe version has a thermal mug.

I am looking for one for myself when traveling.

Hmm probably not, but my main concern is having a hot plate/unit going on while im not in the room... dont want to start a fire in an often careless and forgetful life that is college. A thermal carafe just seems more carefree to me...

Hi again...
The brew-n-go brews 62% the capacity of 4 cup pot (2 1/2 cups). Capacity of the b-n-g is 15 oz versus 24 oz. One calls it a 'mug' and the other '4 cups'.

Biggie2-

Most of the suggestions so far are good choices.

However, if you want a traditional 4 cup coffee maker and are not too price sensitive I suggest the Kitchenaid 4 cup. Caveats - It is discontinued. If it breaks you may not be able to find replacement parts like carafes.

On the other hand, it has two heating elements so brewing and warming are done at appropriate temperatures. Depending on the model it has all the other bells and whistles. I have the 12 cup and it's, IMHO, one of the best coffee makers made (or used to be made).

You can find them by doing a 'Kitchenaid Coffee Maker' search on ebay. Some people have found them and the 10 and 12 cup models at Lowe's.  BTW, the larger models have a 1-3 cup switch which lengthens the brew cycle for small quantities. I found this to work pretty well. However, these take up more space which I'm guessing is an issue.

All these units turn off automatically after 2 hours.
