Help! Received my brand spankin' new Mini this afternoon. Tried experimenting with different grind settings a few times and then TROUBLE -
loud screeching noise, grinding stopped. Unplugged and let it sit, but still no action. What could I have done? I'm freaking out here....

Zowie Patty!!  (:-o)  That sounds ULTRA traumatic!
So sorry that this is your welcome-to-coffeegeek-post
(Welcome to CG by the way)

Does it humm when you turn it on but the burrs don't spin?  If so then there may be something hard stuck in there (like a pepple).  If that's the case it's an easy fix.  UNPLUG the machine.  Then carefully unscrew the upper burr carrier (like adjusting coarser until it comes loose).  Once off you can check inside and see if there's anything foreign in there.

If it's not that then please be more detailed explaining exactly what happened in the chain of events leading to the breakdown.

Thanks for the help, Jon! I did remove the upper burr carrier as you suggested and was able to clean out a couple of errant beans. Once the Mini cooled down, it was good to go.

I was a little surprised that the Mini was so "touchy". I'm not quite sure what I did to cause this little problem, but it makes me a little nervous. Hopefully it was a fluke, never to be repeated :)  Anyway, after more experimentation with the grind, I am in love!

Thanks also for the welcome. Reading reviews and comments about grinders in CG helped us make the decision to buy the Mini. Next major purchase still to be determined.....
