Can someone give me the definitive answer as to whether or not the Melitta Clarity with the showerhead mod is directly comparable to the Technivorm? I really don't see how a $30 machine can compare to a $200 machine. Is it more of a longevity issue? I have read posts about the TV's heating element remaining strong after years of use. Is the Clarity likely to crap out after a year? Since Chefs Catalog is selling the Clarity for $26.99 shipping included, is it more of a case of "what do I have to lose?" Neal

6 minutes faster is definately worth 170 dollars more(LOL!!). You have to realize the clarity used to sell for alot more.... it is basically not going to exist anymore, anyone still selling it is selling from a clearence stock...once it's sold out it will forever be sold out...there are only 2 known places to buy one qvc and chef's catalog(which I just found out recently also) ...so i just bought another back up clarity(#3)...and i'm still 130 cheaper than the 'vorm'...and have 2 in reserve...
Fast coffee never equated to good coffee in my book that is why i have a serious bias against bunn's.... but the vorm definately (from what i read) makes good joe...as does the clarity...
clarity is more like 7-8 minutes....I've used mine for 7-8 months now, pour in water, turn a switch... not much to break really....its a pretty basic machine as is the 'vorm', (from what I've read anyway).... buy a clarity try it out....the vorm ain't changing or going anywhere...it'll still be 200+ if you decide you don't like the clarity....
Thanks Kel, That's just the bit of information I had been lacking. I think you're the first to report brew time for the Clarity. Sounds good to me, and at $30 the risk factor is extremely low. Mine will go to the office whe it arrives.
Seems tome that when it comes to OVERALL value, Clarity is a winner.
This is a bit late, but thought it was pertinent enough to chime in. I just ordered (Christmas time) and received a Clarity from QVC for $25 shipped. The first thing I did was to clean it up and run two full brew cycles with no coffee and no filter. I timed both cycles and both took all of 5:15 minutes for a full 10 cups. I think that is just about perfect territory for extraction from what I have read. I have not yet used the Clarity, but I am hopeful it will produce a wonderful cup !!!
