I've had my Barista Thermal Carafe coffeemaker since 8/01. It worked so well I bought one for home (the other is at work and I brew about twice a week). Today it appears that the pump stopped working. Lots of huffing and puffing, but no brew and no steam to indicate water is passing through. I have contacted Starbucks to ask about repair. I'm very disappointed as I've had $20 coffeemakers that lasted much longer. They seem to get great reviews and I've never heard or read about this type of problem. Anybody have any suggestions or advice?
I just purchased mine so I hope that I don't have the same trouble as you've had. The machine has a two year warranty so I would expect no issues in getting it repaired unless your out of warranty.
So far, I think the machine is top shelf over the department store machines I've had.
Hey JMAC! I'm happy to say that a call to their toll free number reaped great rewards! They sent me a new coffeemaker within a week and I only have to return the old one - they pay the postage. I had purchased it in July of 2001 and a receipt was not even required. I got the machine yesterday, but still have not received the UPS tag for pick-up of the old one. I'm a happy camper at this point! I was told to hang onto my receipt in case the replacement one had any problems. As I had no receipt, I was able to go to the website where I purchased the machine (Cooking.com) and print up my invoice and a manifest showing orders/shipping dates. She said that would be acceptable for a return of the replacement machine. SO, all in all, I think they stand behind their "stuff" and I hope to never have to found out how much again :). Enjoy your machine!
Purchased a Starbucks Barista Aroma earlier in the year. Makes a pot fast enough to be sure. My major problem has been the grind recommendations. The company's rec. is much too fine. I have a Starbucks (Solis ) burr grinder and find that I get best results with a much coarser grind. Any finer and everything tastes really bitter. Have tried several coffees, Starbucks' Verona and Gold Coast among them. I have, however, used other beans from other sources with similar results. The pot is kept clean, no breakdown there. The thermal carafe is, however, a great feature..and the major reason for the purchase.
Well I tried to measure the temp - meat thermometer -don't know how accurate it was. It registered around 170 degrees best I can tell. So your search will have to continue I guess. I'm fine with the brewing temp as is, but I wouldn't mind it a little hotter. It seems to stay at that temp for several hours at least. Happy brewing!
