Subject: Dumb Question on Perculators

I'm admittedly a coffee lover, but I have always wondered what is so bad with perculators?  I'm also a nostaglic type of guy, and remember when I was a kid the coffee perking away on the kitchen counter.  The unique noises, the coffee bubbling in the glass top, and the sight of the stainless steel perculator are in all fixed in mind.

Would someone here give me a brief summary as to why perculators are so bad, or why they are now hardly even used?  Are there any advantages to them at all?

My Daddy used to say, "You don't know till you ask," so I'm asking!

If you like the taste there's nothing wrong with it.

I work with a guy who won't make his coffee any other way.

I think the reason it produces a taste most here probably don't appreicate is because it's re-circulating the brew at too high a temp.  Boiling coffee is one of the cardinal sins if you appreciate subtle flavor.
