Hi,

I would like to upgrade from my current Barista to a more powerful machine.
Have purchased a Saeco Incanto Classico from Costco for $599. which is still
in the box. I've looked at reviews and am wondering if the Rancho Silvia is
a better machine for the long haul. The price is a little better and I would
prefer to buy the best one once! But I don't have enough knowledge on
the subject to make a great decision.

Thanks for any input,
Denise

Silvia is a better machine with a great knowledge base (here and in other places) to accompany her.  You should be aware that you'll need to upgrade your grinder though.

Thank P, do you have a grinder recommendation? The Saeco has the built in grinder but
I sure do need another one, since I think I'll be going with the Silvia, (found one online for  $599)
the knob stripped off within a few months so I'm now using
a butterknife to turn it on!

I can't speak for the other one, but the silvia is a good maching.

As far as grinders go, look to spend more than 100 bucks. The rocky (also by Rancilio) is a popular choice and an excellent grinder. As long as it's a burrmill grinder and not a whirly blade and not too cheap, you should be fine. Make sure whatever you get will grind the coffee fine enough for espresso.

Good choice Denise, Silvia is built to last and you will get great service out of her once you get her variables from brewing a good shot worked out. YES get a good grinder otherwise you will get very frustrated, I have a Rocky and it is a solid good performing grinder, there are a number of other great grinders out there depending on budget, the most crucial element of good espresso in the grind....you can have the best machine in the world but if you have a crappy grinder you will go nowhere.
Good luck with your new equipment, I'm sure you will get plenty of advice on how to get great shots out of her from fellow Geekers.
cheers
