Is it normal to be so far off proper calibration? Does it matter?

Well it's not carved in stone, but I've seen grinders vary from the standard factory calibration numbers I mentioned. There are manufacturing tolerances, but don't try & overthink everything.. No it really doesn't matter, it has just moved the grind range a bit further upscale., & you'll only lose out on the very top end.

You don't need the boulders from that high of a grind # anyway I'd assume.

Nope, certainly don't need anything that coarse. However, if my zero is at 15 and I'm grinding in the 10 - 11 range for espresso, it sounds like I shouldn't be letting the grinder "run dry" (for lack of a better term) at that setting? Now I'm going to have to figure out how to fit afternoon espressos into the mix... :P

I'm new to espresso brewing, but am I correct in thinking it's unusual to have to go that far below zero point in grind setting? Maybe I'm not quite sure what I'm trying to listen for. Basically, if I start at the top and work down with the grinder running, the sound is exactly the same at every click until I hit 15. Then it changes slightly. I'm scared to go below that now without any beans in the hopper.

I'm in a similar boat as I have the Preciso, and frequently switch beans and use the grinder for espresso, drip and other methods.
I weight out my beans.

In order to grind everything in the hopper, I pretty much have to run it empty for a couple seconds. I've sort of been assuming that it's all relative and a couple seconds don't matter much.
Am I deluding myself?

Also, I think it's supposed to be running when you change grind settings (at least from coarse to fine). I don't want to do this with beans in so I sometimes pulse it for a moment and move the setting.
Any thoughts on that practice?
