I'm still trying to figure out what's the use of drinking decaf. I mean, we drink coffee for the caffeine, right? (well at least that's for me). Anyone care to fill me in?

I drink coffee for the flavour. If it was just for the caffeine, I would stick to the $5 per lb grocery store crap.
Some people are very sensitive to caffeine, some completely intolerant. I was one of those that could not drink anything with caffeine in it for a few years. Even now, there is a limit

I enjoy it for the same reason many people drink fine wine. The uniqueness, the variety, the warmth. And it tastes good. My caffeine tolerance is such I can drink it and go straight to sleep. A pharmacist friend had a word for that, but I forget what it was.

The problem, the catch 22, is that all current caffeine removal methods seriously compromise the flavor qualities of the bean; If you can't handle the caffeine, you will not be able to enjoy the best coffees. Sorry.

With respect- that's old news. Two or three - maybe four - of the top ten shots I've had in the last few months were decaf, and decafs now stand well on their own. It was true once but there's just too much good decaf to ignore from Coava, Redline, Redbird, Water Avenue, Deep Cello or Spella - and probably many others.
The best reason to drink decaf is so you can drink more coffee. And for those who can't drink caffeine, the best reason is so you can drink coffee at all - period.

The technical term for that is actually "tolerance." :P And no, people on this forum do not usually drink coffee for the caffeine. There would be no reason to buy $15 a pound coffee if that was true.

Actually I like beer, and I think I like the taste of alcohol however I get no pleasure from the effect of alcohol, in fact I regard it as a down side.
I of course also like coffee and I tolerate caffeine pretty well. If it jump starts my brain I view that as an upside.
I do roast decaff for my wife's drinks. While the selection is less than what you can get in caffeinated coffee I think what I roast for her tastes pretty good.

On occasion, I really enjoy a cup of decaf French Roast from the local roaster in the evening.... If I don't do the decaf in the evening I don't sleep at night... Its actually quite good!
