Hi I am new to the forum and already have a question.
My behmor roaster has arrived and I managed to get an ok batch from the sample box I ordered, it was called "java"
Now to my question, many of the bags of beans in the sample have no location, just the name of the bean, I have been trying to find a chart or something that shows where "java" beans would be from. All of the samples have a name that must mean something to someone, not including myself. The reason for wanting this info is that in reading many of the posts it must be very important to know where the beans are from so that one would know their characteristics. I have also noticed people grouping various beans into categories. SOOO what I was hoping to find was a chart with info about the different beans. Have not been able to get the search function to narrow down enough to find one. I realize that "java" is a location but the other names are not. Thanks Carson
Post the names. There is no chart with all the "fincas" (farms) and estates throughout the world. With the names, some members will be able to identify country of origin.
Note - Most green retailers will provide name of country and name of farm/finca/estate. I am surprised that yours don't list origin.
I went to the website (coffeebeandirect) and found most of the info, they must have run out of the regular bags when they packaged mine. I ordered the roaster and the beans from amazon and had not been to the site where the beans actually came from. Now I just have to learn how to use it. Thanks for your reply

I thought it was an actual place, I remember an old movie about sailing ships and they said that they were east or west of "java". I thought it was near where the island/volcano exploded and left just the rim of the island. Reading a bunch of post on different type of coffee and their characteristics Carson

That might be interesting to know for 138,000,000 Javanese Indonesians, who must all either be floating or flying instead of living in Java. Java grows and supplies both premium arabica and relatively low cost robusta beans. about 300,000 metric tonnes a year all up. Indonesia (Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, Bali and Flores) is the 4th largest coffee producer in the world.
Oh, and while I think about it, a pretty good summary of all the coffee origins worldwide and production statistics used to be available from www.maison-jobin.com. I don't know if they still produce it (it was available as a book and a CD) but the SCAE might sell it.
