I order a 5 lbs bags of coffee at a time in an effort to save money. I keep 1 lb out for my biweekly usage and unfreeze a lb on my last day of usable coffee.
When I store the coffee I double wrap each pound freezer bags (usally ziplock or glad) then take the those 4 lbs and store them inside a paper grocery bag to keep out light. Does this sound effective? Anyone use a vacuum sealer?
My usable coffee is stored in a metal container I got at tj maxx (I know, I know), though air tight it is metal which is no bueno.
Thanks for everyone's help on the coffee roaster question, bought a new 5 lbs bag today.

There are some good old threads on storage, which you'd probably find quite useful. you can find them with the search tool.
Many of us who freeze use Ziplocs or mason jars...some even put Ziplocs inside of mason jars. Some use vacuum sealers too, but you can pseudo-vacuum seal your bags by closing them almost all the way, then sucking out the air with your mouth and sealing them at the end of that "vacuum".
Most of us who discuss storage, break our bean packs down into smaller aliquots than you...more on the order of a one to five day supply in each bag/jar.
