Subject: Vintage filtron Cold Brew Coffee Maker

I recently purchased a vintage Filtron pot.  The kind made of heavy rubber glass.  It's parts are:
Top section for water
Large middle section for coffee grounds
Bottom section to hold the coffee
Fan to hold the coffee
Plastic screw on filter
Plastic cone with cone edge
Round fabric filter

How on earth do I use this thing?

I love the idea of cold brewed coffee and want to try it out.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks for the welcome!  And thanks for the link.  I had seen this already and the maker I have is the old fashioned all glass one.  I will post some pics when I get home tonight.

Thanks again
Leonard
PS:  I spent hours cruising around this site last night.  VERY cool how many other people love vacuum coffee pots so much!

It's this machine.  (I found this on e-bay)

I think it's beautiful and if it works well as a cold brew machine than I will be so happy.

Thanks for the replies!

Best
Leonard

Thanks Leonard!

Wow what a classic looking old time cold brewer. The bottom half/pot reminds me of an early 1920's Silex vacuum brewer! {;-)

Congrats on your purchase, EccoPronto.

It does appear that you have a vintage Filtron Cold Brew Coffee Maker. You can visit http://www.jitterbuzz.com/indcof.html and scroll down to see a picture of it, packaging & brochure as well as instructions according to the posting by "40s Phil of central Indiana."

Hope this helps and you enjoy many cups of cold brewed coffee.

I've consulted that page may times just to look at the photos of all those amazing coffee makers.

The instructions they provide are for the newer (1970s) model.

Sooner or later I will fiNd the instructions and I will pass them along to you guys.

Thanks for addressing the question though. I appreciate it.

Best
Leonard

nb:  I'm drinking a cup of coffee made in my silex vacuum as I write this.  If people knew how smooth and delicious coffee becomes when brewed in the vacuum method, they could junk every electric drip machine in the house.  It is de-licious!  (I'm just sayin')
