I don't know if there are any home coffee maker tinkerers out there but I have a new project:
Today I came across a Mr. Coffee FTTX95 at Ye Olde Goodwille for a steal ... so I bought it. Now that it's home, I plug it in and nothing. The little display lights up, but doesn't tell the time and no lights come on. Further more, the buttons are not responsive and I'm wondering if just wasted my $4 or if there is somebody out there who know a secret trick to breathe new life into my thrift store rescue project.

Max, welcome to CG. Hang around long enough, and you'll get a response. Just curious as to why you didn't check it out before you took it home. Our GW stores here in TN MUST allow you to plug in a product...and test it with water, etc if need be. You can't roast coffee in a popper, but can turn it on and allow it to heat up fully before purchase.
Just a bump, I am not aware of a way to fix this but someone might. I also plug in and test items before paying and taking home, often, the reason something is there is because it is broken. They try very hard to catch the broken items but sometimes "stuff happens" Sorry.

Thanks for the welcome and the advice. For the record, I did plug it in at the store and the display light came on (but, being Seattle, the Goodwill is always absolutely slamming so I didn't have time to really kick the wheels much). I assumed that there was some sort of safety built in that disallowed brewing without water in the reservoir (or some such trickery) and that is why the panel lights didn't work. Besides, taking the risk and attempting to restore a down and out machine was totally worth the $4 I spent on it. I'm going to take this one back though and try out the other one that they had at the store. I'll keep you posted.
