hello,
sorry if it's a dumb question but,
i recently bought an 8-cup bodum french press but sometimes want to make only one cup or two is it possible to use the same press in this case or should i get a smaller one too?
i've tried and it doesn't seems to go right, the plunging bit seems to have no resistance at all, is that ok?

The recommendations I've seen all say to get good results you need to make the volume the press is designed for. I've used fp for many, many years, but honestly, never tried (or at least I don't remember ever trying) making anything less than the press' designed intent (I must have learned that early on somewhere).

This should work, I would think, as long as your coffee-water ratio is good and the plunger is managing to separate/hold back the grounds. If temp. stability is a problem due to the low volume, maybe fine up the grind and reduce steep time accordingly?

The french press is probably the most forgiving when it comes to not making a full pot. The only problem I can think of is that the plunger is designed not to go all the way down, so with less grounds you'll probably have some liquid space between the filter and the top of the grounds. You can reduce the heat loss as well by wrapping the press in a kitchen towel while it brews-- I find that gives a better cup, especially for my smaller press, so it should work for a larger one. Because there is more glass to water ratio, you might also want a few seconds of preheat with boiling water as well.
